About Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa

Peering over England’s Bassenthwaite Lake in Cumbria, Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa’s history dates back to the 11th century. Its current outfittings were laid out in 1880, when a local mine owner converted the property into a “country gentleman’s residence.” The Hall’s estate origins layer its walls with rural character; each room overlooks the lake, the gardens, Deer Park, or the courtyard. Its 400 scenic acres are elevated by year-round award-winning dining, a freestanding modernized spa, and covetable wedding opportunities.

The Hall’s demeanor often appeals to couples, but families are graciously accommodated—even down to the family pet. Children may splash in the spa pool during certain hours, while their furry counterparts lounge on provided bed cushions.

Menus of Services / Classes

While The Hall’s estate-style hotel beckons days of old, its spa and fitness center are contemporary havens for serenity-seeking travelers. Spread across 2,300 square meters, the spa’s facilities feature an indoor infinity-edge pool overlooking the gardens, an outdoor garden hot tub, a heated aroma room, and a “rain dance” shower with pulsating water pressures. The Hall’s bespoke spa treatments center around four carefully selected product lines that emphasize “positive aging,” executed through a series of lifts, wraps, massage, and scrubs.

Holistic practices include a Sundari Cooling Scalp Treatment with eucalyptus oil and an Indian Head Massage. Salon services such as makeup and tanning applications are also available. Expectant mothers and parent-teen visitors will find day packages and offerings customized to their needs.

Exercise avenues are abundant at The Hall: The gym incorporates Life Fitness Elevation equipment, fitness memory technology, daily workout classes, and personal training regimens.
To boot, clients may undergo a fitness, wellness or body composition analysis, schedule glucose and cholesterol screenings, and examine individual health-risk factors.

Facilities & Amenities

Facilities & Amenities

The Hall’s sprawling landscape envelopes four food and beverage options, a spa and fitness center, an indoor and outdoor pool, two conference suites, and three wedding ceremony spaces.

The Hall’s owners—the Graves family—also own the neighboring Coalbeck Farm, the shell of Cumbria’s Lake District Wildlife Park, a conservation-driven and free range animal center sitting on 24 acres of greenspace. This family friendly attraction cares for more than 100 species and welcomes nearly 50,000 visitors each year.

Bassenthwaite Lake’s tranquil waters, marshlands, and meadows provide a stunning backdrop for naturalists seeking hiking, bird watching, water activities, and photographic vantage points. Ospreys are commonly seen jetting down into the water to hunt fish. Spirit enthusiasts may opt for a tour and lunch at Lake’s Distillery, a whiskey, vodka, and gin producer set inside a renovated 1850’s Victorian farm.

Rooms & Dining

The hotel’s 46 en-suite bedrooms are broken down into eight categories: Family rooms provide bunk beds and interconnected rooms; spa rooms and spa feature rooms remain closer to the wellness facilities; and deluxe and suite accommodations come with more space and picturesque views.

The Hall presents informal and formal dining options, as well as daily afternoon tea. The Conservatory and Hall Lounge serve indoor and outdoor midday meals and also provide walkers with food-filled backpacks for lawn picnics and hikes. The Courtyard Bar and Brasserie is a three-meal service and seasonally sound restaurant flaunting casual decor. Courtyard guests may drop by in the morning for a leisurely latte and return at night for a duck breast or risotto dinner. Fine dining can be found inside the Lake View Restaurant: Here, talented chefs fuse Cumbrian specialties with French fare. Dishes can be paired with Lake View’s colorful wine selection. Lunch and dinner are available at Lake View, but “smart dress” (no jeans, sneakers or t-shirts) and reservations are required. Dietary restrictions can be met upon request.
