Not What Paid For
I went here for a deep tissue massage for 90 minutes. I got a 50 minute 1/2 swedish deep tissue massage. Not enough pressure and shorted me 40 minutes. Informed me Masseuse thought I bought a groupon deal. That was clearly not it, therefore they gave me 1/2 off. Will not return.

Disappointed
I had a deep tissue massage done by Nicole and it was not good at all. She didn't use enough lotion and felt like she was pulling my skin. I couldn't relax at all because it was so noisy outside the room. The atmosphere was not nice at all. Don't waste your time going there.

Hugely disappointing...
My friend and I purchased Groupons for Spa Manicures and Pedicures. The waiting room was weird. No magazines, no snacks or beverages, although they did offer us drinks. A waiting room should offer something in which to pass the time. Yes, I understand it was intended to be relaxing, but it was just weird and boring. The pedicures were strange. For a "Spa" pedicure, I expect to be offered more than just a pumicing for softening of the feet. There are other methods for an effective pedicure. I can use a pumice stone at home, and I do. Instead of getting a leg or foot massage, they just let us sit there. The manicures would have been a lot nicer had they been performed in the back portion of the salon. The front just isn't very nice. I paid for a salon manicure and upgraded to the gel polish for an extra $20. I didn't receive the paraffin treatment or massage, like my friend did. The worst part was the women working on us talked about race, politics, and other subjects that are just completely unprofessional. The whole experience was just sub-par and just seemed plain trashy. My friend got her $ back from Groupon. My manicure was good, but in all, $50 total plus tip was SO not worth it, and it would have normally been $95 plus tip

Nice
My Aunt has been here before and liked it so when I saw an offer through Groupon for a Carribean body treatment I jumped at the chance. I enjoyed it very much- my skin is so smooth and glowing. What a great exfoliation! First they use a gel cleanser, then a sugar scrub, then a seaweed mask and finally a lotion. In between each step hot towels are used. I was even pleasantly surprised with a scalp massage while the seaweed mask dried. It smelled great and the music that was playing was very appropriate (it included the sound of waves from the ocean) and relaxing. The atsmosphere was clean and relaxing. I do need to comment on 2 things: I did feel a little rushed and while it was nice that my masseuse wanted to make small talk I just wanted to listen to the music and relax. Still it was a good experience and I can see myself coming here again.

Had a great time with some good friends!
Some friends and I booked appointments at KaLu because they were able to accommodate a group of 6 at one time. We arrived to find that they were in the process of changing over their product line to Aveda and couldn't have been more thrilled. The front desk staff apologized for the disarray of renovating, even though we didn't notice and took us to the relaxation room. We were treated very well and had a great time. Our treatments were amazing and the spa area smelled great and was very clean. I will definitely go back and would recommend giving KaLu a try. Thanks ladies for making our day even better.

Not that bad
I have to disagree with most of the reviewers (and even somewhat with the reviewer who is CLEARLY someone who works at Kalu). I've been to Kalu twice and have always been treated with professionalism and warmth. I visited with a group of girlfriends for a mini spa day and they set us up nicely and took care of us well. We had a good enough time to return! Maybe it's not the best salon in Buffalo but it's certainly not as bad as the reviewers have made it out to be.

WORST SALON EVER
By visiting this website you would think this place was top notch. The manicurist not only took 2 hours for a simple manicure, she used a rusted nail clipper that completely ruined my nails, she didn't even attempt to reshape them, fix my cuticles or APOLOGIZE! No hand massage or anything; All she did was take my nail polish off and paint them and not even WELL, my 5 yr old neice could have done a better french manicure!! The only positive thing was the super friendly receptionist! This place should seriously either re-price everything to be dirt cheap or Go Out of Business!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or money HERE!!!!!
Response from KaLu Salon and Day Spa
Hi Marie L. First let me begin by saying I am extremely sorry that you had a bad experience at my salon/day spa. I would usually contact a client directly when they have a negative experience but I am not sure of your full contact information. I would like for you to call me directly to discuss your experience and see if there is anything I can do for you to make you happy. Please call me at the salon and ask for me. I would greatly appreciate this as we can not improve if I do not know exactly what happened. Thank you. Tammy 695-5258

Dissapointment
I went to Kalu for a pedi and mani special that was adverstised as a wine and chocolate retreat. I had to ask for some wine, and no chocolate anywhere. The atmosphere was totally out of date. For the price I paid, I expected a lot more. I won't be going back because they charge the same price as nicer spas I have been to (Cappellos, Seasons, ect..) The staff seemed disinterested in my needs. I was dissapointed to say the least. Not worth the $$$.

Favorable, Friendly, aFFordable, Fantastic!
From appointment to checkout...no complaints from me. Receptionist was courteous, helpful and knowledgeble of services and pricing. KaLu offers AM, PM and weekend hours to accomadate anyones schedule. The salon area was busy, bright and cheery with upbeat music keeping the atmosphere happy! The staff was friendly and fun while maintaining their professionalism. Product shelves were well stocked and neat. My stylist was eager to hear my concerns and offered some great choices. My color came out great!! The spa area was dimly lit which added to the peaceful ambiance of the decor and natures music. My facial and massage were so relaxing, I'll be returning for more of the same! I have been a customer of this salon for a few years now and have referred many family and friends who continue to patronize this business. KaLu was always a great place but actually seems to have a more comfortable feeling since the new owner took over earlier this year. I would definitely recommend you to try this salon for yourself ...you'll see what I mean! They have some great gift certificate options available for the holidays and some great sunday specials. While your guy is watching his games...you can bet on KaLu!!

Way Ghetto!
Agree with the 'Ghetto' comparison. After checking out the website I thought for sure this was going to be a winner. I was really looking forward to my visit hoping this was going to be my new hot spot. Boy, was I wrong. I was greeted by a friendly recieptionist , that's about the only positive thing I can say about the place. The salon area is way outdated, over- lit and not 'trendy' by any means. The spa area is just plain dingy looking. Very dark and for a good reason. I can't imagine what I might have seen if the lights were turned up. I would go 'out of my way ' to another salon and spa to have a relaxing afternoon.

Ghetto
I thought by the advertisement and the receptionist I spoke with, that this was going to be a primo selection but I was wrong. When I walked in the door it was an overlit, cheap and dirty salon. The workers were underdressed by anyones standards and seemed intoxicated, there were no relaxing moments, I just felt unwanted and treated like a stepchild. The stylist was talking badly about everyone she knew who came through the door. As a hairstylist I knew what my hair needed and even told the stylist there the same and she completely ignored me and showed me she was an amateur. I will never go back and trust me, you pay for what you get, there is nothing above and beyond about salon kalu (SAVE YOUR MONEY HONEY).
