Chiva-Som blends an Eastern sensitivity to balance and wellness with modern, Western treatments. Every visit begins with a consultation, during which guests are given a customized health plan and are encouraged to enjoy restorative rituals in the sauna or pools to remedy jet lag. Spa-goers can then choose services a la carte from the holistic, medical, or spa menus or take part in a treatment program designed by the spa's staff. Special retreat programs are available in areas such as fitness, weight management, stress management, detox, and holistic health.

Chiva-Som has stayed true to the original notion of 'spa,' healing through water, and it has an impressive array of wet treatment areas. These include a Watsu pool and bathing pavilion with an exercise pool, plunge pool, a large hydro-Jacuzzi, Kneipp therapy foot bath, and a multilevel steam room. The spa also has separate male and female wet areas with a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, and relaxation room. The fitness facilities include a gymnasium, a dance studio, and a Pilates studio. Chiva-Som has a very extensive yoga program; group classes, workshops, and consultations take place in the open-air yoga pavilion and private sessions are held in the yoga sala. The spa also offers a reflexology path and a tai chi pavilion.

The Rolf Method of Structural Integration by Jeffrey Bomes

    02/15/2012 - 02/28/2012

Join Chiva-Som’s consultants for The Rolf Method of Structural Integration by Jeffrey Bomes. Structural integration is a scientifically validated body therapy. Unlike massage, Structural integration focuses not on the muscles but on their protective layer, called fascia (also known as connective tissue). Structural integration aligns and balances the body by lengthening and repositioning the fascia. As fascia is lengthened it allows the muscles to move more efficiently. The practitioner will apply pressure to the body, working the entire fascial system in a systematic way. When restricted fascia is released and lengthened the body can return to its structurally optimal position. The continuing pull of gravity, stress of daily activities and physical injuries can pull the body out of alignment. The fascia gradually shortens, tightens and adjusts to accommodate the misalignment. When the body is out of alignment is creates inefficiency and imbalance resulting in stiffness, discomfort and loss of energy. When a body is aligned and balanced it moves with greater ease. It requires less energy to function. Good posture is effortless and breathing is easier. The body becomes more flexible more coordinated and athletic performance improves.

    Core Synthesis By Pat Thummanond

    03/05/2012 - 03/19/2012

Core Synthesis is an art of body listening and a gentle form of manual persuasion through light touch to achieve physical correction, self realization and an integration of mind, body and spirit. It is the synthesis of craniosacral therapy to sooth the nervous system; visceral balancing to diffuse emotions from different organs and lymphatic drainage to assist the lymphatic flow for detoxification. If you are suffering from these conditions, this treatment is calling for you: Migraine or headaches Neurological disturbances Chronic neck & low back pain Chronic fatigue syndrome Emotional stress Head trauma Digestive disturbances Or just in a great need of a body ‘tune up’. Pat is a Physical Therapist and a certified cranio-sacral therapist trained in the U.S. with over 20 years of experience.

Chiva Som is special in so many ways. From the the way you are greeted, to the lovely service to the outstanding spa treatments to the beautiful decor, I could go on and on. After traveling quite a long time to get there, I started off my stay with the most wonderful Thai massage after which I promptly fell asleep in the dark, cozy relaxation room bed covered by the softest comforter, surrounded by a lovely lemongrass scent. My whole stay felt like that -- cozy, spritual, relaxing. The food is fantastic. The selection of things to do is extensive. Truly, I cannot wait to return!!

I have been to a lot of spas, and this is the one I would like to visit every year for my annual blood test, healthy and delicious food, fabulous water therapy, daily massage, and wonderful schedule of a variety of classes. The indoor and outdoor pools are terrific, and the Thai people are always smiling and friendly and at your service. The women's lounge with steam, sauna, showers, and rose pedal covered cold plunge is extraordinary. In my two visits I found no flaws and can't wait to return again and again.
