  Kapalua Resort sits on 22,000 acres along the bay shores of Lahaina's northwestern coast, surrounded by lush, emerald nature preserves, stunning mountain vistas and pristine beaches. Christened Kapalua, or "arms embracing the sea" in Hawaiian, the seaside property celebrates its coastal setting with treatments inspired by the aina (land) and kai (ocean) at its on-site spa. Shaded by slender cook pines, the resort resides on a working pineapple plantation, while preserved historic plantation homes, store, churches and preservation site remain landmarks on the property.

  The resort features two championship golf courses, 10 tennis courts and a wealth of water sports, adventure, hiking and cultural opportunities that cater to the international traveler. The 30,000-square-foot spa, one of the largest in the state, features island-style treatment hales, a saline pool and salon.

The 45,000-square-foot Kapalua Spa, winner of the 2012 World Luxury Spa Award for “best luxury destination spa in the country,” overlooks bay shores and has 20 treatment rooms, including 10 outdoor tropical hales, or huts, one of which comes appointed with an oversized carved stone tub for two. Other spa amenities include an infinity-edge sea-salt pool and whirlpool, café, boutique, full-service salon and fitness center. Every element — from the rich fabrics, to the inlayed shell accents and sea glass decor — is designed to create a harmonious environment.

The spa's Hawaiian- and ocean-derived treatments include massage, water therapy baths, wraps, facials and scrubs infused with local ingredients like passion fruit, coconut, pineapple and mango. The signature Awa Cacao Lomi Cocoon combines lomilomi techniques with a soothing wrap. Guests can also reserve blocks of time, allowing therapists to customize services based upon the client’s needs.

Before treatments, guests can unwind in the relaxation lounge, taking advantage of the saunas and steam rooms, all while enjoying views of the Pacific and island of Lanai.

The Mountains & The Ocean – “Mauka and Makai”

Legend has it that a beautiful princess named Naupaka fell in love with a commoner from the ocean shore. As Hawaiian tradition forbade them from being together, with sadness, Naupaka took the white flower in her hair and tore it in half. She placed one half in her lover's hand and told him to return to the ocean shore and she would live her life in the mountains yearning to one day be together. This is why the Naupaka flowers bloom in halves. It was Naupaka’s final wish that one day her flower will reunite with her lover’s flower and the white flower will be complete
with all of its petals, symbolizing that the two Hawaiian lovers are together at last.
Kapalua Spa has created two unique scents representing the Mountain and the Ocean Naupaka flowers and the two Hawaiian Lovers.

Each guest will start with a traditional lomi lomi massage with the assigned scent for each gender. Next, the therapists will start the exfoliations that have both incredible aromas infused together. The journey finishes with the two lovers being reunited together with an aromatic couple’s bath in a stone carved outdoor tub.

Kapalua Resort offers guests a full schedule of fun and fitness. The 4,000-square-foot fitness center features Life Fitness and Kinesis equipment and a movement studio, along with a host of classes such as Zumba, Pilates, heart hula and boot camp; additional workouts include personal training sessions and yoga, held 10 times each week. Water enthusiasts can alternate between swimming laps in the Hawaiian sea salt-infused infinity pool, located inside the spa, or splashing in the nearby surf.

The Bay Course (18 holes, designed by Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane) and Plantation Course (18 holes, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw) welcome golfers of all skill levels to hit the links amid shoreline and pineapple fields, or they can perfect their game by taking tips at the Kapalua Golf Academy. Instruction is also available at the tennis facility, or guests can practice their serve on one of 10 courts.

Guests have their choice among accommodations at the enclave-set Kapalua Villas, or the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, located in the center of the resort community. Guests reserving villa accommodations, overlooking the golf courses or the Pacific Ocean, can enjoy access to the Kapalua's golf, tennis and dining facilities.

Kapalua Resort offers an international menu of culinary options at its three restaurants. Guests can savor farm-to-table fare at the elegant Merrimans, or satisfy their appetites at the Pineapple Grill, which serves Pacific Island cuisine and provides ocean and golf course vistas. Healthy dishes, including salads, sandwiches and wraps, are available at Kapalua Spa’s café; spa-goers are welcome to dine poolside.
