Spent a rainy spa weekend with my girlfriend at this resort which is driving distance to Woodstock and Saugerties. Plenty to do and see. We stayed in the lodge at the resort which was like having your own private log cabin complete with a covered porch and king size room and bathroom. The staff was exceptional. The spa area was clean, friendly, and we enjoyed the most wonderful massage and foot reflexology. Can't wait to go back!

I live within a half hour of this spa so I haven't stayed there and enjoyed all of the amenities, but I go for facials every few months. The facilities are clean and luxurious. I've never been kept waiting more that 5 minutes, even when I've been late to an appointment. I've been very satisfied with my treatments. I usually get a facial for acne prone skin and have extractions done. Of course, my skin will be red for a day or two, but afterwards, my skin will be clear for at least three weeks- totally worth it.

I got the aromatherapy massage and it was just lovely. They let me choose which type of scent I preferred and each scent had a different benefit to you. At the end of the massage they were waiting with a cold glass of water and asked how everything was and what she noticed about specific parts of my body that she thought needed more attention than others. After the massage, it was great and even more relaxing to spend some time in the sauna. Made the experience really wonderful. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I recently was divorced and needed a quick getaway to reconnect my mind, body and soul. This was a 2 1/2 hour drive and was a wonderful restorative weekend. My best friend and I stayed in the Inn...was perfect. The fireplace in the room, the private balcony and the service at the Inn was wonderful. The spa was very nice with great treatments and I felt that the staff was caring, well trained and understood that they are also therapists in a way. I have spent a number of long weekends at Miraval in Arizona. Although this can't compare, it was a great much less expensive alternative to the most perfect spa in the US. The only disappointment was that there was no other place for dinner than Catamount! The Phoenix should have been open for lunch and dinner as there is very little that is good that is in the area. I will go back though!

My husband and I went to the Emerson for the second time this past week and it is a wonderfully relaxing place to visit for an afternoon. He had an aromatherapy massage and I had the Emerson signature massage which I highly recommend. We both also had body scrubs before the massages and pedicures afterwards which were very soothing and worth the trip to the resort which is a little bit off the beaten track. It is not the most luxurious spa I have ever been to but the services provided are consistently good. The pool is a bit of a walk from the spa itself so plan to take a stroll of about five minutes if you wish to use the pool.

I found the Emerson Resort and Spa to be just magical! I booked my appointments thru SpaFinder's special 50.00 treatment week and spent the day in a tasteful environment surrounded by Asian antiquities and tranquil music. The services were among the best I have experienced (massage, facial, mani-pedi) and the support staff was pleasant and helpful. Shopping at the stores in the complex was a nice surprise as the merchandise was unusual and interesting (with a few great end-of-season sales!) Later, I met friends for dinner at the Phoenix and the menu was appropriate to the elegant, healthful day I had just spent. I am looking forward to coming back here for an anniversary weekend with my husband this summer so we can enjoy the outside grounds and pool.

After reading some of the other reviews, my husband and I were aprehensive about picking this one for our anniversary getaway. Well, we were so glad that we went. First, the hotel, the rooms, the spa, and all of the other facilities were simply beautiful and so well maintained. We each had 3 spa treatments and they were outstanding. This is coming from someone who frequents spas. I cannot explain why others gave it such poor reviews, perhaps they have hired new help since then but, out experience was amazing. We especially liked that it was a relaxed casual atmosphere around the hotel and we didn't feel we had to be dressed up and fancy but, were able to experience a truely pampering spa. July 2009

I am a Physical Therapist and a licensed massage therapist for 15 years now. I know a liitle bit about this stuff. I have to say beyond the rude and arrogant receptionist, the services here are amature at best. For someone who does not have alot of experience with this type of service you might think its great but let me inform you, it's not! You can do so much better for less money. Cranwell and New age spa's are so much better if you live in the northeast. They don't charge a fortune for their rooms. There staff are highly experienced professionals that really know how to take care of there customers. And make sure you know you are not going to cancel because they charge a $30 dollar cancellation fee with in 30 days...thats absurd! Huge thumbs down for me, will never return or recommend.

Travel Information

  • The Emerson is two hours by car from the George Washington Bridge and 75 minutes' drive from Westchester.

  • Stewart Newburgh and Albany airports are each about an hour away. LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark are less than 2.5 hours away.

  • The Emerson is located along the banks of the Esopus Creek, the birthplace of North American fly fishing. Beginning or experienced fishermen alike will find the creek a rewarding experience. Emerson chefs are pleased to prepare the day's catch for dinner - if you are fortunate to catch one of the elusive trout in the Esopus Creek!

  • It is best to book all reservations for the spa as far in advance of arrival as possible. As the spa is very popular, it may not be possible to provide the requested services or appointment times desired if you wait until you check in.

  • The nearby village of Woodstock is the home of the historic Byrdcliffe Arts Colony as well as other cultural opportunities. It is not, however, home to the site of the famed concert that bears its name. To truly "get back to the garden," you can travel approximately an hour to the town of Bethel, where the new Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center now welcomes nationally known talent.
