Like the rest of the Inn, the Ancient Cedars Spa blends rustic charm with luxurious amenities. Thalassotherapy, reflexology, hot stone massage, and facials are offered, and the facility contains a steam room, a patio, and an oceanfront treatment room where couples can receive massages.

Sacred Sea, one of the spa's signature services, begins with a full-body exfoliation followed by a session in the Bouvier Hydrotherapy Tub. Its 144 jets massage the bather, who soaks in a combination of marine elements and essential oils. A full-body massage and wrap in warm cotton blankets follows. Finally, a foot massage and stress-relieving scalp treatment end the treatment.

I visited this spa last summer on vacation and was very impressed with the quality of their facility and service. The setting is amazing with a beautiful ocean view and a luxury lodge feel, surrounded by the forest. You have the option of booking services in an outdoor area overlooking the ocean during summer which was the option I chose. The staff provided a tub with warm water over river rocks to relax and soak my feet before the pedicure. The treatment itself was completed with the greatest attention to detail and an enjoyable leg and foot massage completed the service. I would definitely return.

During a holiday in July 2006 I went to Tofino, BC and experienced the beautiful West Coast outdoors. It felt very fresh and alive there and the people were wonderful. I had heard about the Wickaninnish Inn a few years previously from a TV show that was called "The Best Places to Kiss" and what I remembered from this show and what made me want to one day visit the Inn was the storm season. It showed the natural beauty and coziness of the inside of the Inn and through the huge picture windows, the wildness of the waves crashing outside. It looked exciting. While my visit did not coincide with storm season, it was definitely gorgeous weather. The Wickaninnish did not strike me as spectacular when I first drove up, it seemed to blend a bit into the forest.........but I think that is to their credit. Once inside it is a very comfortable and natural setting. My experience in the spa was total bliss. I have been to many spas in the past and found this one to be the most relaxing to date. From the moment I was greeted and shown to the change rooms the feeling was very calm and time slowed. After changing into the robe and slippers provided in the large change room, I was given a choice of waiting to begin my treatment in the indoor or outdoor waiting areas. I chose to wait outside. Well this in itself was a treat. I was given a choice of water or tea, then given a cozy blanket to wrap myself in while a warmed foot bath was brought for me. In the footbath were marbles so you could give yourself a mini foot massage while either reading the numerous magazines available or take it the spectacular views of the ocean. The service I had chosen was called the "self-renewal face and body". It was 2hrs of pure bliss. I am planning a spa trip with one of my girlfriends for summer 2007 as this was the most wonderful spa experience I have had to date most notably because of the ambiance and how special the staff made the client feel.

    Rooms & Dining

Each of the 75 spacious guest rooms and suites has a fireplace, a private balcony, and floor-to-ceiling picture windows, which offer sweeping ocean views. In keeping with the Inn's commitment to sustaining the environment, the furniture has been fashioned from recycled old-growth fir, western red cedar, and driftwood. The décor incorporates textures found in nature, with a wool sisal carpet, natural stone tile, and rough-hewn cedar mantelpieces. As a final touch, in each room there is a handmade, individually numbered driftwood chair, by the artist Maxwell Newhouse. There are also 30 guest rooms in a separate building named Wickaninnish On the Beach.

The Pointe Restaurant sits on a rocky promontory and provides 240-degree views of the Pacific Ocean. It has 20-foot-ceilings, a circular wood burning fireplace, and hand-cut and -shaped cedar posts and beams. Fresh coastal seafood, locally grown produce, and an extensive selection of Pacific Northwest wines are on the menu. After dinner, guests often relax at the On-the-Rocks Bar and Lounge.

The Wickaninnish Inn is a paradise for nature lovers, and the concierge can arrange tours with local naturalists. The Inn is on the edge of The Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, the largest remaining temperate rainforest. While hiking, biking, or kayaking through the park, guests can enjoy the distinctive local flora and fauna. Five-hundred-year-old Sitka Spruce, some of which are ten feet in diameter and 300 feet tall, are a common sight. Between March and May, 21,000 Pacific Gray whales migrate from Mexico to Alaska and often make a pit stop in the food-rich waters surrounding the Wickaninnish Inn. The resort is located directly on Chesterman Beach, a resting place for bald eagles and ospreys during their long migrations.

    Other local activities include:

  • Sea kayaking
  • Day trips to Hot Springs Cove (located an hour and a half from the Inn)
  • Fishing
  • Golf (the 9-hole Long Beach Golf Course is nearby)
