Nestled against Vancouver Island's rocky west coast on Chesterman Beach, Tofino’s premier beachfront, the Wickaninnish Inn defines rustic elegance along nature’s edge. The 100-acre Inn, tucked away amidst temperate coastal forest and surrounded by the ocean on three sides, is minutes from the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and Clayoquote Sound. Floor-to-ceiling windows in each guest room provide views of the stunning environment, and an on-site spa with a couple’s treatment room, housed on a deck suspended over the water, adds to the allure. While taking a treatment, it’s not uncommon for guests to become immersed in fragrant cedar, salal, and spruce aromas coupled with the sound of crashing waves.

Like the rest of the Inn, Ancient Cedars Spa blends rustic charm with luxurious amenities. An envious location on lovely Chesterman Beach, combined with calming rituals and a oceanfront dual treatment room, have made this spa a favorite among travelers and locals since its 1998 debut. Unparalleled serenity stems from a tranquil, natural landscape, tucked into the shorefront’s vegetation, along with majestic ocean views from the spa lounge and patio. Interiors reflect the surroundings; custom-made, locally sourced furnishings created with indigenous materials fuse with local artwork and highlights such as a sea cave steam room.

Hishuk Ish Tsawalk Awakening Treatment, one of the spa's signature services, blends fire, water, earth, and air elements with the traditional cleansing ceremonies of the West Coast’s natives. The ritual begins with a full-body exfoliation utilizing Vancouver Island’s seaweed extracts, followed by a session of hot and cold therapy and a hot stone massage.

Pedicure by the sea

I visited this spa last summer on vacation and was very impressed with the quality of their facility and service. The setting is amazing with a beautiful ocean view and a luxury lodge feel, surrounded by the forest. You have the option of booking services in an outdoor area overlooking the ocean during summer which was the option I chose. The staff provided a tub with warm water over river rocks to relax and soak my feet before the pedicure. The treatment itself was completed with the greatest attention to detail and an enjoyable leg and foot massage completed the service. I would definitely return.

ULTIMATE RELAXATION

During a holiday in July 2006 I went to Tofino, BC and experienced the beautiful West Coast outdoors. It felt very fresh and alive there and the people were wonderful. I had heard about the Wickaninnish Inn a few years previously from a TV show that was called "The Best Places to Kiss" and what I remembered from this show and what made me want to one day visit the Inn was the storm season. It showed the natural beauty and coziness of the inside of the Inn and through the huge picture windows, the wildness of the waves crashing outside. It looked exciting. While my visit did not coincide with storm season, it was definitely gorgeous weather. The Wickaninnish did not strike me as spectacular when I first drove up, it seemed to blend a bit into the forest.........but I think that is to their credit. Once inside it is a very comfortable and natural setting. My experience in the spa was total bliss. I have been to many spas in the past and found this one to be the most relaxing to date. From the moment I was greeted and shown to the change rooms the feeling was very calm and time slowed. After changing into the robe and slippers provided in the large change room, I was given a choice of waiting to begin my treatment in the indoor or outdoor waiting areas. I chose to wait outside. Well this in itself was a treat. I was given a choice of water or tea, then given a cozy blanket to wrap myself in while a warmed foot bath was brought for me. In the footbath were marbles so you could give yourself a mini foot massage while either reading the numerous magazines available or take it the spectacular views of the ocean. The service I had chosen was called the "self-renewal face and body". It was 2hrs of pure bliss. I am planning a spa trip with one of my girlfriends for summer 2007 as this was the most wonderful spa experience I have had to date most notably because of the ambiance and how special the staff made the client feel.

The Wickaninnish Inn is located directly on Chesterman Beach, along the edge of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, the largest remaining temperate rainforest. A paradise for nature lovers, the region provides hiking, biking, or kayaking through the park, where guests can enjoy the distinctive local flora and fauna (500-year-old Sitka Spruce, some of which are 10 feet in diameter and 300 feet tall, are a common sight). Rooms & Dining

The 75 guest accommodations are spacious and romantic, detailed with lovely amenities like fireplaces, private balconies, and floor-to-ceiling windows. In keeping with the Inn's commitment to sustaining the environment, the furniture has been fashioned from recycled old-growth fir, western red cedar, and driftwood. Decor incorporates textures found in nature, with natural stone tile and rough-hewn cedar mantelpieces, and as a final touch, each room has a handmade, individually numbered driftwood chair. There are also 30 guest rooms in a separate building named Wickaninnish On the Beach. WiFi access is available in all rooms.

At The Pointe, contemporary Canadian cuisine and a selection of Pacific Northwest wines rival the restaurant’s dramatic design. Set on a rocky promontory, the restaurant provides 240-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and boasts 20-foot-ceilings, a circular wood-burning fireplace, and hand-cut and -shaped cedar posts and beams. Driftwood Café features casual dishes and light fare; following a meal, guests can visit the nearby gallery space celebrating local artists’ work.
