Not a real SpaBy YvetteS | December 29, 2012
I really wanted this to be a great relaxing experience but it as was horrible. The mani and pedi was less than spa like and I have definitely had much better mani pedis in my "hood". I guess I automatically expected better for a place that calls themselves a day spa in the city.....this place is far from that. The woman in the chair next to me was talking about her foot fungus and I immediately started looking for their sterilizing equipment. There were NONE !!! yes they use the tools over and over and don't clean them!!! They had limited dryers and then actually had the nerve to place a hand dryer on the floor so a girl can put her feet into after she walked across the dirty floor. They completely over booked so the wait was very long and the waiting area was dingy and dirty. I saw woman outright complaining about the long wait. The bathrooms are gross and the robes are clearly used over and over since mine was wet and smelled. The towels are not crisp and I couldn't help but think that I could actually catch something or worse leave with bed bugs. I really was not impressed and it was in no way, shape or form ideal a spa like experience.

Fine experience with excellent resultsBy NikkiS | November 21, 2012
I bought a Groupon special facial which included a face massage, steam, micro dermabrasion & seaweed mask. I read the reviews after & was concerned as to what I might expect.
I called for an appt & got one on the day & time I requested. The receptionist was very firendly.
I arrived on time for my appt and was graciously greeted by a woman who introduced heself as the owner - Lia Schorr. I was assured that Eugenia, whom I had requested, would be my facialist.
The Spa was immaculate, attractive and even had a lovely odor. After waitng a few minutes Lia Schorr escorted me to a private room w a wonderfully comfortable chair.
She said I was to remove my jewelry and all my upper clothes but to keep on my bra. I was given a good quality heavy robe.
I again waited a few minutes & Eugenia arrived. I received all the treatments specified and was delighted w the results. At times while I was getting steam & during the Seaweed mask treatment I was left on my own. This is standard in every salon where I have received a facial.
When finished It was suggested I use a particular product they were selling. I said I'd think about it, but was not interested at that time. They simply put away the product. There was no attempt at a hard sell. I w

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER - NOT A SPA AMBIANCE EITHERBy LisaR | July 13, 2012
I came here looking for a new spa in NY with a set appt. - STAY AWAY!!!!
I was greeted by Lia who was on the phone arguing really rudely to the person on the phone. Then, I was quickly rushed into a small, unattractive waiting area. Many staff member passed by during my 1/2 hour wait and no one gave me any eye contact and they all looked completely MISERABLE!!! I wasn't even offered a cup of water. Then, the masseuse came out to greet me and shuffled me into a tiny room that didn't even fit a small table for my cup of water that I asked for. Also, the towels were old looking and I was very skeptical to lay on top of it. The masseuse was nice, but she was trying to convince me I am too tense and need more massages. The masseuse was very hard on my neck and too soft on the rest of my body. This was a complete waste of my money.
I have gone to many spas and will never go back there again. Lia was rude and nasty she wasn't friendly to her customers or staff either. Stay away!

THE BEST ESTHETIC SCHOOL FOR SKIN CARE!By amyh | April 21, 2012
My parents always wanted me to become a lawyer but that didn't really set well with me but my parents raised me very strict so I had no choice but to please them. I told them I would go to law school on one condition and made a deal with them. We agreed that after I finished law school I could study what I really wanted to study and that was to become a skin care expert because I was always fascinated by the beauty industry. When I finished my law degree I moved from Atlanta to New York City to attend school for skin care because I heard that New York had the best schools particularly one that I remembered the name Lia Schorr from way back when a few of my friends attended her Institute. When I arrived to New York I went straight over to The Lia Schorr Institute to meet this inspiring lady who had put 40 years of dedication to the industry of esthetics that I was told so much about by my friends. When I finally met her I was so impressed and moved by her accomplishment, integrity and high level of experience in the education of skin care. I immediately enrolled in school and I had an incredibly great time and a very blessed experience. I learned so much from Lia Schorr she definitely is a pioneer in the industry. After i was finished I was very sad to leave but I had to move back to Atlanta to start gaining the experience that I needed to open my own spa. I worked for a year and a half in a spa in Atlanta to learn the basics of running a business. So in approximately 2 years of graduating The Lia Schorr institute i had my own spa like I dreamed of having since I was a young teenager. I couldn't have done it with Lia she taught me not only about skin care but how I to can have my own spa with strong commitment and dedication in a field you love just like her. looking back 4 years later I was so lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of this incredible institute who opened my eyes and a door in a profession that i yearned for and love so very much.

I don't understandBy KarenM | April 18, 2012
I have been to this spa on two separate occasions and had a positive experience both times. I would not rate this spa as excellent but would not hesitate to rate it as VERY GOOD. I have no clue as to why this establishment gets as many bad reviews as it does. Brought my friend with me today for a facial, pedicure and massage and she loved it and we both booked future appointments.

Horrible!!By emilyj | January 29, 2012
My friend and I made an appt 2 months in advance, we had a combo deal (massage, facial, pedicure) and when we got there we had to wait an hour! And it was horrible waiting because the place is so chaotic and there were a few disgruntled customers there. The owner treats her staff and CUSTOMERS like cattle!! Ordering people around, I so hated this place. There is no spa ambiance. My friend was slighted on the pedicure, since they were closing they did her facial and pedicure at the same time so she didn't even get to soak her feet in water! So they took us in an hour late and on top of that was cheated on services.
All that said, the only thing this place has going for it is the staff, they are so professional and I had an awesome massage (one of the best!!) from Toshi and my pedicure still looks great 2 weeks later. Even though the service is great I would not go back to this place, just thinking about this place stresses me out.

I hate Lia SchorrBy bettym | December 10, 2011
All the bad reviews about this place rings oh so true for me. I bought a 5 package deal thorugh Groupon, and have suffered through several visits because I already paid for it. I can't brign myself to go anymore, I dread calling and TRYING to get appointments, the phone staff and Lia are just plain rude, and you always need to wait. Yhis is not a doctors office by theway, I find this so unacceptable to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time. The price was too good to be true and not worth it.

Worst spa experience everBy nickp | November 10, 2011
I do not understand how there can be a single positive review posted here, this place shouldn't even be in business. When we had to be buzzed into a shady office building suite, I knew I was in for it. These people didn't even use SHEETS in the treatment rooms (see: closets) just a few not-so-strategically placed washcloths and dingy towls on the table. After being manhandled during a strange scrub-massage combo service, I was thrown into a dirty shower stall while the next person was being ushered into the room. All the while you've got Lia--the legend herself--stomping around and screaming at the poor staff. The best part is that she'll try to sell you an outrageously expensive package when you're trying to run out of there. Do not give this woman a dime!!! This place is filthy, the services are terrible and you'll leave more stressed out than when you arrived.

Disgusting SpaBy D | September 23, 2011
I actually give this spa and Lia Schorr no stars!!! What a horrible spa experience! What was supposed to be a fun outing with my cousin turned into a horrific day. Lia Schorr is aggressive, abrasive and only cares about the bottom dollar.
The spa itself is filthy dirty, extremely old and unsanitary. I had
to ask for a 2nd robe, as the first robe provided was dirty with other peoples hairs on it. I was hesitant in putting on the 2nd robe, as I do not believe it had been washed in between customers. The "therapist" providing the service for the 75 minute facial was going in between a mininum of 2 rooms simultaneously. In other words, she would apply cream to my face, run out of my treatment room and into another treatment room and 15 minutes later, come back in to my room to apply a mask (very quickly). After each application, she ran out. I would say that she was actually treating me for a total of 20 minutes the entire 75 minute facial. Furthermore, it is doubtful whether she washed her hands in between treatment rooms. Luckily, my cousin was in one of the other treatment rooms; however, I do not know whether there was a 3rd or even 4th treatment room being used simultaneously. When bringing this to the attention of Lia Schorr, she said this is standard practice, brushed us off and went on to assist other customers. To be quite honest, this is not standard practice and the health department would likely shut this place down if they knew of the unsanitary conditions.
During the 60 minute pedicure, once again, it appeared very
unsanitary. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable (and very old).
There was not a good selection of nail polishes and most of them were dated. Overall, this was not a good experience. In fact, it was the worst spa experience I have ever encountered. There was no relaxation involved and I couldn't wait to get out of there.
DO NOT COME HERE...YOU WILL BE ABSOLUELY DISGUSTED...NOT WORTH ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY. IF I WERE TO GET A FREE VOUCHER FOR ANY SERVICE, I WOULD TELL LIA SCHORR TO SHOVE IT!

DON'T COME HERE! LIA SCHORR IS A SCAM ARTIST!!! She overbooks with Groupons/Travelzoo/LivingSocial deals, takes your money and gives you the run around when you try to book an appointment hoping that your voucher/deal will lapse. Don't come here, the place is filthy. When you are getting your treatments, they leave the door wide open and Lia runs around barking in Russian. Expect to wait 2 hours for a treatment!
DON'T BOTHER COMING HERE, IF THE DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS!!!
This place is NOT a Spa, this place is a HELLHOLE, a total dump!!!

Poor customer service, not a real "Spa" EnvironmentBy tiffania.chin | June 29, 2011
It seemed like an "in and out" establishment, rushed, not very relaxing, and not knowledgeable, as facials should follow a time frame and not take hours for a mask and getting steamed. A client should not feel neglected, as that is poor customer service, and we go to a spa to feel pampered. Also, rudeness and difficulty in booking. I would recommend a spa that is more organized as well as ethical.

The Most Knowledgeable facialists!By stefanieb | June 14, 2011
I had very bad skin so I went to The Lia Schorr Day Spa for a facial. The facialist I had was the best and I have had many facials in the past and they never really helped my skin problem. When it comes to handling acneic skin Lia schorr has the best facialist in Manhattan. Between the facials with extractions along with the different treatments she uses on my face, like masks, spot treatments and different electrical machines my face has been spot free for the last 5 months. Her staff is very friendly, warm & sincere after a few visits they really made me feel like family. Lia was one of the most caring, knowledgeable person I have ever met and truly value her knowledge in skin care she is a true legend.

Lia Schorr Day Spa Is A Fun Place For My Daughter!By nancy b | June 14, 2011
I have always wanted to come to The Lia Schorr Day Spa. I had heard so many recommendations about the legacy of this spa that has been around for a long time. Lia Schorr is considered to be a diva in the skin care industry and since she also specializes in men's skin care I convinced my boyfriend to come with me. We arrived saturday morning and were welcomed by her staff who were very professional & warm to us. I have been having facials for many years but I was loyal to my facialist however when my facialist retired I knew that I would come to this spa that I have been hearing about for many years. Lia schorr's staff are AMAZINGLY KNOWLEDGEABLE & EXPERIENCED!! I truly enjoyed my experience. I loved the relaxing music, the tasty dried apricots and the lemon water was very refreshing on such a hot day. My skin felt amazing it was glowing, felt very soft and more youthful. I have the highest respect to the woman behind this magic.

don't go hereBy Marie | April 19, 2011
My appt was for a 75 minute facial. I was left in the room with steam on for a good 15 minutes of it (i thought i was going to suffocate). The asthestician works on 3 rooms at the same time so while i was under the steam she was with someone else. She came back, slapped on some mask and left again for another 20 minutes. There was no massaging of the face involved. The rooms were very noisy and not relaxing at all. Eventually, she came back in, cleaned off my face, and I was rushed out of the room. THe facility was not very nice and certainly I would not go back.

Never Again!By ValerieP | April 8, 2011
This was the WORST manicure/pedicure I ever had! My friend and I bought a deal on Spa Sally, 2 manicures and pedicures for $25, thinking it was a great deal. When we came for our first appointment, the results were disastrous: the manicurist would not cut my cuticles even though it was very obvious they needed to be cut, all she did was push them back and told me I didn't need cutting them. She also made gave my nails and toenails very unfortunate shapes, crooked and uneven for toenails and more round for nails even after I specifically told her I wanted them square. And all the nails ended up being different length too. My friend's nails were in a similar disarray even though her nails were done by a different person. I was so disappointed I will not come back for a second appointment.

RUDEBy ArleneB | June 11, 2010
My husband purchased 2 gift certificates for myself and our daughter to spend a day at the spa. I just called to schedule an appointment. I spoke to Lia herself, the owner, and she was the rudest person I have ever spoken to in my life. I asked to schedule a massage and a facial for two people. She asked if I had a gift cerificate, i said yes and that the certificate was for four different services. She told me I could only do one. I asked her why since I was scheduling 2 months in advance for a day at the spa. She told me she was not going to spend 4 hours on me and lose out on her cash paying services! Can you believe this??? UMMMM How did she think my husband got the certificates?? by paying cash, Hello lady!!. Needless to say I will not be going there nor will I take my daughter as this would be her first spa experience. Unreal! I'm still in shock. Very nasty lady. I dont know how she's still in business.

Not relaxing at allBy JennH | March 12, 2010
I've had both the facial and the masssage here. The facial was much too long with th periods of the technician being out of the room being unacceptable. She probably works on 2 people at once so while she's with you, the other person has a mask on and is waiting and vice versa. I was bored and wasted my time. The technician was good but my problem was sitting in a chair for 2 uncomfortable hours for what should have been a 1 hour facial. As for the massage, the rooms are tiny and very basic. I don't know how she moved around. I could tell that she had a difficult time going around me to hit various places and it definitely showed in the quality of the massage. Also, it was very noisy, you can hear everyone outside (all the workers talking to each other) so it was not relaxing at all.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVERBy allisonb | February 27, 2010
I bought this package that looked amazing - 5 treatments for $90. I called to schedule these and the girl was trying to figure out a day to fit them all in. It turned out they were booked up for at least a month in advance and I wouldn't be able to get all of these treatments in one day. After going back and forth with the girl on the phone, trying to schedule, the OWNER got on the line and started yelling at me that I could only do 1 service at a time, so i would have to go back FIVE TIMES. Are you kidding? She was extremely obnoxious and rude. Why would I want to go back 5 times if the whole point was to buy a package and have a fun day at the spa? She was yelling at me. I will never ever go here.

Manicure/PedicureBy dasmith | May 5, 2008
Not worth the trip and would never go back (even if I had a free gift certificate). When paying more for a manicure/pedicure at a Spa, I expect more than at the local Nail Salon. The service was not at all relaxing (especially, since they did both services at once), and it seemed like it was rushed, even though there was no one else waiting. The pedicure technician cut me (albeit accidentally) and the nail technician hovered, as she stood and gave me a manicure. Guess I should have insisted that she wait, but, shouldn't this be a given. Can't comment on their other services, but once you turn me off, I tend to discount your venue all together.

Too badBy spagoernyc | December 27, 2007
Let me start with the fact that you sit in a very old, beat up recliner in a very, very small & shabby room. They keep the door open during the entire treatment where Lia is in and out, even though she has nothing to do with the actual treatment. I hear tolits flushing, Lia arguing with her staff-- very noisy. The treatment itself was not bad, but my goodness- I have never had so little done in such a long time. I get facials often and usually get what they did in 60 min, and they took almost 2 hours. On what? I was left in the room alone (with a tissue draped over my eyes) w/ the door open, getting steam for what seemed like forever. Oh, time for a mask? Let me leave you for alone again half an hour. Best of all, I was asked about 1000x for me (and my guest) to get add ons which resulted in 5 minutes more and $75 extra on the bill. Next time, I'll go to a much nicer (cleaner/newer) spa, get a better treatment and pay much less-- without the harassment.

Loved my facial....By SpaJunkie | August 8, 2007
I frequently go to spas in New York and this spa is typical in terms of the decor, amount of space, etc. As with most places here in this city, there are no amenities such as steam and sauna. You go here for the services and not the environment.
I had a facial with Eugenia, who has been here 20 years. She was very pleasant and did some great upper body massage. I was so relaxed that I fell asleep during part of it. The facial was MUCH longer, 1.5 hours than a typical facial (even though the prices are a bargain for the results and the amount of time you get) They believe in giving the masque a longer time on the face so it really penetrates.
I have to say, that this was the most beautiful my skin has looked in a long time.... clear and radiant. I normally won't leave go outside without makeup but felt fine afterwards. Very convieniently located. I look forward to coming back.

Great GiftBy mar67 | July 6, 2007
My boyfriend bought me a gift certificate to The Lia Schorr Day Spa. Facials were not something that I usually get but since I am a singer/performer my skin takes a beating from all the makeup and the hot lights and I noticed that my skin began to break out and look dry and blotchy. I have been complaining about my skin, so my boyfriend went on spa finder and was smart enough to choose a spa that specializes in skincare. The Lia Schorr Day spa offers an amazing facial. Lydia was my facialist and I received a seaweed facial, oxygen boosting treatment and a crystal peel. She was very detail oriented and she really took the time to inform me how to better take care of my skin. It took about 2 hours and my skin looked amazing after. I was so grateful to my boyfriend that I bought him a facial and a massage. My boyfriend and I are hooked! I recommended the Lia Schorr Day Spa to all of my friends. I am, to say the least, a very happy and satisfied customer.

An escape from the cityBy tt1181 | June 18, 2007
I just moved into the city and was looking for a reliable, professional and affordable spa. I found the Lia Schorr Day spa online and I gave it a try. The only time I could squeeze in an appointment was after work so I went ahead and I made an appointment for a facial and pedicure. To make a long story short, the facial was amazing and my skin looked younger and extremely fresh. My pedicure was brilliant and it lasted longer that any other pedicure that I have gotten in the City. But more importantly, I felt so refreshed and revitalized after the whole experience at Lia Schorr. As I entered the spa I was taken aback by the beautiful yet simple décor of the spa. I was greeted by Lia Schorr herself and was offered homemade lemonade with green tea. It was a great escape from the usually hectic city! I can’t wait to come back for a massage!!!

The term "spa" is used very loosely...By SpaJunkE | January 8, 2007
This would better be categorized as a "service center" perhaps. I frequent spas often and recently tried Lia Schorr. To my dismay, I entered the reception area to find that it also doubled as the waiting room for patrons. Men & women were seated in robes in slippers, right next to the elevator...not very relaxing at all. I had a massage which was very good, and a facial which was OK, but my manicure was the abolute worst. I'm looking at it now and you can see where the second coat of polish didn't even cover the nail.
There was not a candle in the place and the chatter of staff in the halls and other patrons was a significant hinderance to the spa experience. I should have followed my instinct and cancelled my appointment after the rude disposition of the receptionist when I called to schedule my appointment (turned out, that the reservationist is actually Lia Schorr or I would have complained).
I believe I've been spoiled by frequenting other spas where I can expect relaxation, fresh fruit (Lia had a bowl of sweet tarts and Now & Laters), and the simple pleasure of being removed from the hustle and bustle of the city... but then again...isn't that why you go to a spa in the first place??

Great Brazilian WaxBy jaime | December 23, 2006
This was the best Brazilian wax I have ever had. I read the great reviews about Lia Schorr for years. I made an appointment with Tommie, Tommie has worked for Lia for 15 years, she was so nice, pleasant, and professional. I was very impressed how fast the process was done. For the first time it was not painful as other places. For me this is the best place for a Brazilian wax. I would recommend it to everyone.

Great gift from a loved one.By maryruth | December 1, 2006
I read the review of Lia Schorr's Spa & decided to give it a try. My husband & I decided to do the spa duet, two facials and two massages. We both had hot stone massages with reflexology and facials with oxygen treatments, it was totally devine. It was the best massage I have ever had. I can't stop talking about the facial. The facialists at this spa are so educated. The next day I was surprised to find a gift from my husband. It was a package for a year of facials and massages. I can't say enough about this spa. Everyone should experience the wonderful treatments at this establishment.

Best Spa ImaginableBy nettie | November 25, 2006
Being an advid reader of New York Magazine, I have always noticed the Lia Schorr promotions about her Day Spa, that has been in business for close to 25 years. Since I am in fashion, and close to the beauty industry. I have always heard about the best places for skin care treatments. Lia Schorr was always on the top of the list. Lia Schorr has earned a reputation by being herself. Lia has been recognized as a great success in the beauty industry. Her expertise in skin care is above all others. I had been loyal through the years to another competetor, and I had an urge to try the famous Lia Schorr Day Spa myself. I was so intrigued by the continued write ups of how wonderful this spa is. Lia herself greeted me with such warmth, and professionalism. Her presence made all the difference. Eugenia the facialist that has worked there for 21 years made me feel so comfortable. I tried the deep pore cleansing facial glacolic, and seaweed mask. Boy oh boy! how impressed and pleased I was to be here. I am glad I had the courage to leave my other place, and to try this amazing professional warm place. I will recommend this spa to all of my friends.

Gift for macho menBy macho | November 25, 2006
Last Christmas 2005, my sister purchased a gift certificate for the holliday for my wife, and myself. To my surprise it was for a half day of beauty at the Lia Schorr Day Spa. It is very hard for anyone to buy a gift for me. When I opened my gift at Christmas I was laughing, and said I'm not going there. I felt that I was to macho for this type of pampering. My wife who is quite beautiful, and young looking for her age laughed with me. When I calmed down, my wife looked into my eyes and said you will love this. I agreed to give it a try. When I entered the spa I saw quite a few men waiting to have services. My thoughts of being to macho were dismissed. I had a hot stone massage, to my surprise I felt taller after the treatment. My spine was so relaxed, my shoulders were relieved, and the reflexology foot massage was devine. I felt as though I had been sleeping for a few hours, thats how good it felt. The facial was an experience I will never forget. I had a facial steam, deep pore cleansing, and facial mask. I didn't mind it at all. The pedicure which I never ever have had in my life was excellent. I was pretty convinced to return for more of these treatments. I purchased a package of several spa days, and booked other appointments for once a month for half a day of beauty. I hugged my wife, and once again we found another place to go together, and experience a wonderful adventure. I would reccomend this spa to all men. We also need to be pampered. I'm comfortable excepting vanity.

Won the Worst Customer Service AwardBy Just Want a Good Massage! | April 27, 2006
Setting up an appointment - took several phone calls. The owner is the receptionist, and kept calling me by the wrong name, gets the dates mixed up, and puts me on hold every single time; one phone call she put me on hold three times and once I was on hold for 5 minutes so I hung up, called back, and she acted nonchalant. She calls three days prior to appt, that her worker "called in sick or something". Made me suspicious that she overbooked (which I later found out would not be the first time).
Spa - narrow, rundown.
Massage - I have eczema, which is NOT contagious and I have had massages with unscented, natural oils in the past. I was told to"get out" and the owner said "I don't give massages to people with eczema". Then says, "Don't ever go to a spa, that's not right for the workers". What discrimination! No one has treated me with disgust because of my eczema. That was unprofessional and biased. And in all honesty, I doubt she knew what eczema was.
I would never ever go there again, and would not recommend to a friend. The special packages they offer has a reason - no one would go there if they charged their regular prices! Please do yourself a favor and go to another spa. Get pampered at a spa that actually has class.
