Kirtan: Sound of Yoga
Chanting and Singing Mantras to quiet the mind and energize your Body and SOUL. Our intention is twofold: QUIET the busy mind AND CONNECT with the whole: whole self, whole universe, whole consciousness. The first yoga sutra states:Yogas chita vriti nerodha. Which means:union comes with the cesation of the fluctuations of the mind. The repetition of Mantra and specific breathing patterns in a Kirtan replaces the repetitive unhealthy fluctuations of our mind with positive LOVE. We open the throat chakra (Vishuda), and the heart chakra (Anahata) and bust through the barriers that make us feel separate. Kirtan is a form of Bhakti Yoga , yoga of the heart or yoga of devotion. You can sing and devout yourself to whatever your idea of the infinite is. The practice holds space for everyone regardless of belief creed etc. Bhakti yoga reminds us that it is important and uplifting to bow to something larger than ourselves....whether it's the universal intelligence of nature, love, god |

Kripalu 2/3
We hold postures for longer periods of time (1-5 minutes). This longer holding is stage 2. We do fewer poses, but stay in them longer. This strengthens our ability to stay calm and centered in the midst of intense sensation. It also makes us aware of the flow of what yogis call prana, or life force energy. Becoming sensitive to the movement of prana is a benefit of this practice. When we can feel the flow of prana, we can let it guide us in a moving meditation, a posture flow you create, based on the feelings of prana moving in your own body. This is stage 3 Kripalu Yoga, also called Meditation in Motion. We practice stage 2 (longer holds) for about 1 hour, and then move to stage 3 (moving meditation) for 10-15 minutes. We finish with relaxation, of course!Knowledge of the basics recommended. |

Laughter Yoga Club
First Friday of the month. Join Katie for an evening of fun and laughter…the yogic way! Laugh to get your heart pumping and the positive energy flowing! This is an excellent way to support the community and yourself in an ongoing way. Increase your energy, boost your immune system and connect with others. No need to register, just show up! No mat, experience or special clothes needed. Come as you are!Laughter Yoga is based on the scientific evidence that our bodies cannot distinguish the difference between real and “practiced” laughter. Therefore, we gain the same benefits from practicing laughter as much as we do from truly laughing. Laughter Yoga uses laughter as a tool, rather than an emotion, for the purpose of improving health, increasing a sense of well-being and promoting peace through personal transformation. You do not need to have a sense of humor to laugh. You do not need to be happy to laugh. You do not need to have a reason to laugh. All you need is an open mind |
