Yin

Yin Yoga is the art of letting go. The focus of this class is to refine awareness and tune into intelligence of the body. Long holds of passive posture are used to stimulate and release the fascia or connective tissue allowing energy to flow more freely. This class is excellent preparation for sitting mediation. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. We can remain in the postures anywhere from one to twenty minutes! Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised.

Relax Deeply/Yoga Nidra

The art of relaxation. Because of the hectic activity of our daily lives, we are often in our sympathetic "fight or flight" nervous systems. Restorative yoga, with its emphasis on calming, relaxing, and renewing the body and mind, shifts us into our parasympathetic "rest and digest" nervous systems instead, allowing the body to rebalance. Using props to support the body in reclined poses, we focus on long, soothing holds that open the body and deepen the breath. Combined with yoga nidra, a guided meditation practice in savasana, the class will leave you with a sense of profound rest. A must for all yogis!
