Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional form of yoga that is a series of postures. The elements of Ashtanga Yoga are: asana - the postures; vinyasa - movement connected by the breath; ujjayi - the characteristic breathing of Ashtanga; bandhas - the core muscles; and drishti - the gazing points. Primary series begins with 10-15 minutes of sun salutations and 48 poses which include all the important standing and seated poses of yoga, backbends, hip openers, ending with backbends, shoulderstand and headstand. This class is not recommended for new yoga students or students who have not exercised recently or who have physical restruictions. A year of yoga experience is recommended. |
