Ava's on Grand is an intimate day spa that strives to offer clients personalized attention and service. The spa specializes in private spa parties and encourages party guests to bring their own favorite snacks, such as wine or soft drinks to the event. Services include massage, facials, body wraps, hair services, nail care, lash and brow tinting, and body waxing. Featured treatments are the spa's hot stone massage and Shiatsu Facial. All facials include consultations and the spa offers a membership club for massage discounts. There are a variety of packages to choose from and clients can create their own special spa day by mixing and matching various services. First of all can anyone tell me why a massage therapist was giving me my pedicure??? My mother and I decided to use our Spa Finder Gift Card here and I wish we hadn't. We were both ready for our pedicure and the lady actually said "Can you wait five more minutes I need to go out for a cigarette before we start." Are you kidding me!! Who does that!! We both got a massage which my mom had a guy so if you're not comfortable with that make sure you ask for a female because they didn't even ask if we were comfortable with that. The massages were good but that was the only thing we can honestly say that we liked about this place. Spend your money or gift cards somewhere else!!

I Love coming here for my pedicures. This last weekend I had a girl who gave me a very relaxing pedicure. She helped me pick a color I never would have thought of... and I love it !

I almost, and should have, walked out the door before my appointment even started. The salon was dirty and the atmosphere was cramped, cluttered, and not relaxing at all. Ava herself did my hair, she was very nice but not professional. She actually dropped her comb onto the floor (which was obviously not swept from the previous client), picked it up and tried to keep using it in my hair. The product, hair drier, etc, on her table area were dusty and dingy. Not a good look for a salon. She did not listen to my requests or input, just started snipping away. When I left I immediately went home and took a shower.
The cut and color weren't horrible, but they were not great. I won't be going back for any reason and would recommend others go elsewhere.
The only good input I can give ... the staff was very friendly.

I live in La Crosse WI -I've lived all over the planet NY/LA/Hong Kong etc..- and I drive to Saint Paul for the sole purpose of going to Ava's .
I've never been much of a fan of pedicures- but Ava and her staff made me fall in love with them - wish i could get up there more often.
Ava herself is a color wizard with hair - i won't let anyone else touch mine- it just doesn't look as good.
Love the atmosphere- very professional -she makes you feel so comfortable! Can't imagine going anywhere but Ava's - and i've tried at least 10-15 other spas!

I received a spafinder gift card and chose to use it at Ava's sight unseen. Big mistake. Three of us went, they had 2 people (including Ava) to do manicures, predicures, and a 1 hour facial for wach of us. We did not have time to stay for the manicures. None had a facial longer than half an hour. The pedicure was the worst I have had. The place is tiny and cramped. The nail polish selection was weird and most of the bottles seemed old. The towels we hope were clean but looked grungy and stained.

Booked a spa party with 1 hr facial, manicure and pedicure. When we got there only one employee was there and she was busy with another customer. A second one showed up after 30 minutes and began the first pedicure. After another 20 the other customer was done and the first facial began. The third person had to wait over an hour before anything was started. One of the techs had called in sick and we were never notified. The 1 hr facial was less than 25 minutes long and consisted of wash, exfolication and mask. The pedicure left my feet so rough they now stick to the carpet like velcro. I skiped the manicure since we were running so late. The space was cluttered and dirty. The pedicure tubs were not sanatized properly and she did not change towels between pedicures or linens between facials. Most of the polish was old and separated and most of the magizines were about 6 months to a year out of date. Truly a disappointing experience.

I would not recommend this Spa to anyone. I felt incredibly uncomfortable going into a building where it was just me and a male massage theripist. No one else was in the building, no receptionist, NO ONE. My appointment was at 9:00 AM on a Saturday. Most Salons and Spas would be very busy at this time. I was also scheduled for a Facial, but was glad no one was still there after my massage as I practically ran out the door. The massage theripist was fine and did a good job, but it took me half way through the massage to actually relax. Not to mention there was a hole in the ceiling in the room of my massage. I don't understand where all of the employees were. Please consider a different spa.
