This place is great! Jennifer did a facial and knew exactly what she was doing. Helped my skin a ton. When I arrived everyone was friendly and offered my drinks and a warm neck roll.

I absolutely love this spa. Originally, Urban Sanctuary was on S. Milledge, but they now have a new, larger location at the intersection of Chase and Boulevard. During the time I patronized this establishment, the owner made great efforts to offer more diverse products and services. For instance, about six months ago the spa started offering Naturopathica products, including a pumpkin enzyme peel that smells wonderful and feels great. They also use Suki products, an organic line that I have started using at home as well. (My favorite is the lemongrass extract and sugar scrub. I use it every night!) The spa recently purchased a high frequency machine, too, which is perfect for killing acne-causing bacteria. I have always been satisfied with my visits, and Lizzy, one of the aestheticians, is truly extraordinary. I have yet to try any of their other services, but I can attest to superb, consistent facials at Urban Sanctuary.

Disappointed

There was only one other review on this spa and it sounded great, so I booked an appointment, looking forward to a good experience. I was extremely disappointed. The spa is in an old '40's era house that is accessed down a dirt/gravel road through huge mudpuddles that must have been a foot deep. Entering the front door, my senses were assaulted by an overpowering smell of incense, entirely too strong for such a small, closed space. The interior was small and dark--I think they were aiming for a low light calming atmosphere, but what they achieved was dark and dreary. My therapy room was ground level looking directly into the parking lot, and the therapist instructed me to disrobe to my level of comfort, making a point to say that for most people that was to their underwear--the way she said it was a solid hint that I should leave my underwear on. She then started out of the room without covering the window. I asked her to lower the shade, and she pulled the curtains part way closed instead. I had to ask again that she lower the shade. I scheduled an hour and a half massage, and was supposed to get a deep tissue massage on my back, but it was moderate pressure at best. The therapist did not massage any of the front part of my body except my arms and legs and only about half way up my thighs, seemingly uncomfortable to get anywhere near any "private" parts. No head massage, minimal neck and facial massage. In addition, the face rest was too small and tight, and the pressure caused neck and TMJ pain. I left with a headache. Needless to say, I won't be back.

I have had several treatments including massage while visiting my daughter in Athens. The spa is quite small and not modern and glitzy. The atmosphere is cozy and personal. The staff are excellent and the overall experience is quiet and calming. The products used are unique and enjoyable.
