money hungry grabbers
When you first go in it's pretty. But it is very tight and cramped. Way too many staff in the front bugging you to buy something or try something to get you to buy something. They are constantly upselling products! Gee, I just wanted a nice relaxing experience but instead felt like I was being corralled into their little cage of a place. They are very rude to their staff too I noticed. One girl they told her to go outside and sell to the people before they come in or leave! Like, gee, They are money hungry! I used to live in Santa Barbara, and there are a lot of very nice salons, but not one stresses you out so badly.

Nice spa!
This was my first visit to this spa & I loved it. It was pricey, but any good deep tissue massage will be. I recieved my massage from Jamie & I would recomend her to anyone that is looking to get a great massage. I will be returning.

Best Spa in Bakersfield
I have gone to Essentials Spa since soon after they opened. Upon first entering Essentials the senses are slammed with the noise, hustle and bustle of a typical hair salon. But once the back spa area is entered, the music, fragrance and overall ambience is exactly what I hope for in my spa experience. I may only go twice a year at Mother's Day and in December for my birthday and the staff is always kind and eager to help me celebrate. The atmosphere is high end but the staff is down to earth and helpful. The manager (possibly the owner) even agreed to become part of our SCRIP program at my children's private school--a program that offers gift cards to the spa with a portion donated back to the school. Essentials is by far my favorite spa in Bakersfield!

Pricey but worth it!
I visited this spa, with my spafinder gift certificate in hand, for my first Brazilian waxing. Upon entering, I found the salon portion of the spa was a little cold with its chic decor, but the staff warmed it right up. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Back in the spa portion of the salon it was very relaxing. The staff were amazing. My esthetician was very professional and did a fabulous job. I admit I was scared having heard waxing horror stories; however, she explained every step and gave some great aftercare recommendations. I cannot speak to why the other experiences described on here were so disappointing. All I can say is that my was fabulous and I intend to become a regular at Essentiels.

Beautiful but Pricey
I have gone to Essentials for a few massages and my favorite masseuse is Christina. I recently decided to try something new and attended a complimentary SkinCeuticals anti-aging and NARS make-up application event here. The event would have been perfect if they had not been so booked with appointments for high-school girls' hair and make-up applications for a winter formal dance, and they seemed understaffed for the amount of clients that showed up for the event. It was disappointing that there was some confusion about what time my appointment started and then when I had them reschedule it, I still had to wait over an hour for the services I requested. After I had the skin consulation, which went really well, I had my make-up applied, which was not as impressive as I had hoped. I say definitely go to Essentials for a massage, but be picky about who does your hair and make-up here. It is a very beautifully decorated spa and they offer quite a lot of services.

Day at Essentials
Essentials is not a place I would return to. I went to get pedicure and in my opinion it was too pricey for the service. I could have gone to the mall and got the same type of pedicure. The staff was quite snooty as if there spa was the greatest thing ever. I would not recommend this spa to anyone.
