About Massage America
Massage America's therapists specialize in administering healing massage in practically any environment, from home to office to the privacy of a downtown Manhattan treatment studio. Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is Japanese, meaning “universal life energy,” the energy that is all around us. Reiki is used in both in alternative medicine and holistic health practices. Reiki accesses this energy. It promotes healing in all living things on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. Reiki can be practiced on people and pets. It can help improve the effectiveness of all other types of therapy and medical treatments by reducing negative side effects, shortening healing time, and managing pain and stress. The recipient can be sitting or lying down. There is no need to remove any clothing, as Reiki will pass through anything, even casts. The practitioner gently places her hands in a sequence of positions over the recipient’s body. The positions cover the whole body with each position held for several minutes. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1 1⁄2 hours. For some, a treatment produces a wonderful glowing radiance and for others it can feel like a restful sleep. |

Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu, also known as acupressure, is a finger pressure massage technique.Shiatsu massage therapy and acupuncture are founded on the Chinese meridian system. The therapist applies pressure with his thumbs, finger, and palms to specific areas of the client's body that have been determined during an assessment period prior to the massage session. There are no needle pokes involved with Shiatsu. Massage techniques like tapping, squeezing, rubbing, and applied pressure are applied along the meridians to unblock energy blockages and reintroduce the optimal flow of ki. |
