I went to the Pearl in November for a 3 day course. The location was great, it was quiet for the class, and they kept the room immaculate. We had water with lemon wedges provided, along with tables and chairs. There was an aroma that relaxed while in the class, some a little more than others.
The only reason I would not recommend the Pearl is if you have sensitivity to smell. I do, and ended up with a headache most of the time there, but the Sudafed helped a great deal if I took it prior to the class.

This was the third visit to The Pearl in the last few months. he first time with my husband, the second time by myself, and the most recent visit with my adult daughters. All three visits were wonderful. I love, love, love The Grotto, did it with my spouse and then again with my daughters. Now they want to bring their fellas to the spa too, lol. The staff is super friendly, and they treat you like a rock star :) The facility is really well maintained, and the lounge area is soooo relaxing I didn't want to leave. I have had massages at each visit and was always happy with the treatments. I had a pedicure there once, but it was just ok. The person that did it was very nice, it's just that it's a little pricey just for a simple pedi. Save your money for the massages and facials. I can't wait for my next visit!

Favorite Spa in the Area

I have to say this is my favorite spa in this area. You can't go wrong with The Pearl. The staff is phenomenal and really make you feel good from the moment you walk through the door. Their lounge is by far the most spacious and relaxing, and there are times I don't want to leave after my treatments because the lounge is so comfortable. I also think they have some of the best massage therapist and massage variety. The Icelandic Fusion is one of my favorites. I also love the fact that you can bring your Ipod and listen to your own playlist during your spa treatments. This place also really knows how to treat their loyal customers and hosts complimentary events, seminars, and specials to those with PearlLife memberships, which is their optional member program, which offers great discounts that ends up paying for the membership fees in the long run. I have nothing negative to say about this place and it has often been a great place of solitude for me in stressful times. I love massages the most, but have also tried their body treatments and facials and have been equally pleased. If you are looking for a local spa that actually feels like a SPA and not a back room makeshift bootleg spa.. then this is your place!!!

My girlfriends and I have been coming to this place since we started our monthly spa rendezvous. We go and try other Spa places but we kept on coming back to The Pearl in Columbia. I think it's because we get spoiled when go here. The wonderful lounge, great service and friendly staff make a big difference with the others.

Let me start by saying that the pearl is not an inexpensive spa. You could definitely go to a less expensive spa than the pearl, but I would rather go to the pearl infrequently and have each and every experience be phenomenal, than go all the time to a so-so place that costs less. The services wonderful, my favorite was the classic pearl facial. But what really sets the pearl apart is their commitment to customer service. You want to get to the pearl early so that you can sit in the waiting room. Being there is that soothing and relaxing. I would try to get there 30 minutes before any appointment so that I could shower and then relax in my robe while having a cup of tea. I can not say enough good things about this establishment. Go there, you will not be disappointed. I had to leave the area for work, but I am hopeful that the pearl will decide to expand and will open a new location near to where I live now.

This was hands down the best pedicure I've ever gotten. my feet are smooth and beautiful!
Also, I got a great massage.
More than anything, the staff was attentive, the brownies were delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic.
The only downside is that the lounge can get a little bit full and not everyone respects the volume control / cell phone policy.
Overall an amazing experience.

My husband and I love going to The Pearl. Whether we are stopping in to shop in their boutique or going in for treatments, the staff is always friendly and helpful. The lounge rooms are a comfortable and relaxing way to wait for treatments to start or to chill out for a little while after treatments before heading out. I much prefer the lounges to the way some other spas have you waiting in a lobby area. The whole spa has a very tranquil atmosphere. We have especially enjoyed the packages for two with massages and a soak in a hydrotherapy tub. We are looking forward to trying out the Blue Grotto soon. The Pearl might be a bit pricey, but the whole atmosphere makes it worthwhile.

I do sincerely love this spa. The atmosphere is awesome, the services are great, and the therapists are really nice...but what keeps me going back is The Grotto! The Dynamic Duo includes this and I recommend it for anyone wanting to surprise their significant other with a romantic and unique spa experience. I went there for a day with my friend also and it is great for girlfriends wanting to have fun and relax doing it (bring your swimsuits)! I will say the cost is greater and no spa is without faults, but they definitely went over the top to wave the entire day's services for 2; when a mistake was made by giving a male massage therapist when a female was requested and scheduling 2 foot reflexologies simultaneously when there was only one certified specialist. I will be back there soon enough, Christmas is around the corner!

I've tried dozens of spas in the DC area and this one is my clear favorite - I don't go anywhere else now. The atmosphere and facilities are elegant and peaceful (the lounge area alone is worth a visit!), the staff is incredibly nice, and they have a wide variety of unique treatments. Highly, highly recommended.

I was having severe back problems and was on sick leave for a while. So I decided to go to the Pearl Spa again and received a new therapist who was great. She is petite but has great hands for the back, neck and shoulders (which was my primary concern). Going again tomorrow.

BEWARE of Giftcards!
-
3.00 out of 5 stars

I received a $100 giftcard to the Pearl back in April 2010. I went to their website and discovered (at the time) that they had two locations - one in Baltimore and one in Fulton. The Baltimore location was much closer to me, so I called a few weeks later to make an appointment. Turns out that that location had closed down and was now owned by a new company, Chas Salon. Chas said that they would still honor a Pearl giftcard, and that they would try to emulate their services towards the ones that were available at the Pearl. Well, if you are like me, I don't want a spa to "try" to give me what I want, I want the real thing! So I thought the best alternative would be to make an appointment at the Fulton location. I made my appointment for this past Saturday - I received the Classic Pearl Facial, a $95 treatment. It was delightful and the atmosphere is truly beautiful. When I went to pay, I pulled out my giftcard but it was refused. Apparently, the Baltimore and Fulton locations were owned by "different management companies" and the giftcard that I had received was only valid at the Baltimore location. The girl continued to tell me that 'that location has since closed but they are owned by someone else"...I was honestly shocked because I would not have booked an extravagant treatment like that, had I known the giftcard wouldn't be valid! So with tip, I ended up laying out $110 that I was not expecting to.
Nowhere on their website, the giftcard itself, or at the Pearl does it explain the difference in the validity of giftcards by location, and the girl at the desk was not at all receptive to my obvious shock and upset at the situation. She offered nothing to appease me and barely apologized. I sent a complain through their website, but have received no response. The treatments are great, but their customer service is seriously lacking. Their giftcard process is also very deceptive. Any relaxation experienced was ruined - I will not be returning!

Response from Pearl Spa
Lindsay, thank you for your review. Comments from our clients help us to improve and meet our goal of 100% satisfaction.
There was some confusion back when this was posted with our gift card policies for accepting gift cards from our (at the time) other location in Baltimore. There were some land lord issues with The Pearl in Baltimore and the result was the Spa being run as THE pearl in Name ONLY.
Because the pearl in Baltimore under other management was not providing the quality of service you would expect from "THE pearl" we had to sever relations. That caused some problems with our old gift card policy which allowed a Gift Card to be used at either location.
The former Licensor of "The Pearl" name was not cooperating in providing reimbursement for the sales of Gift Cards and not adhering to policy, so we had no choice but to only honor cards purchased at the Maple Lawn location or we would have gone out of business. We really wished we could have accommodated all of the clients who had purchased gift cards at the Baltimore location, but it was just not possible, the responsible party was the licensor of "THE pearl" name.
This was an unfortunate incident and we apologize for the lack of sympathy from our reception team. It is possible that you had a girl in training who did not know how to handle the situation at the time and this was a sudden policy change that we were not prepared to deal with at the time.
Also our apologies for problems with our website that was not submitting client comments, we never got it so we did not know. The problem which we didn't know about until reading your review, has since been fixed. We love hearing from our clients and are happy to answer all concerns, good or bad.
I hope you enjoyed our complementarity services we provided after hearing about your experience and hope to see you again soon.
Your Friends at THE pearl (in Maple Lawn :) )

My husband had given me a gift certificate for my birthday and I started looking for a spa to visit. I started searching here on spa finders since this is where he had purchased the gift certificate. I read several reviews of many of the spa's in the DMV area and after going though so many I came across the Pearl and it had a high ranking and sounded like people were really pleased with their service so I made an appointment and I Loved it. This was my 1st visit to a spa and I am so glad it was with the Pearl....... I highly recommend the pearl!!!!!!

My husband and I went for a couple's massage to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. My husband had never had a massage. He loved it! It is just so beautiful and peaceful there and everyone was so nice. As soon as you walk in you start to relax. The water walls are so cool. The lounges are are lovely. The couples suite was fantastic. We had a little champagne and some chocolate truffles and we just really felt so pampered and special. We can't wait to go again. In fact I'm trying to get my girls together so we can plan a day of pampering!
Thank you to everyone there at The Pearl, you helped to make our day even more special!!!

Now a friend hipped me to this spa and I have to say I love the blue underwater theme. I love the products that are available when you come in the door such as the neck stress reliever and the teas in the can. The massage therapist are good and the Blue Grotto is one of a kind. My husband and I enjoyed the Couples Massage and had a wonderful half day there. Would recommend again and again. Will be trying the facial next month!

The Pearl spa is truly a pearl. I have been several times, and though it is VERY expensive, I can't help myself. I love this spa. It is my favorite of all of the spas I have been to (which is many). The quiet room is super relaxing and there is a lady who checks on you to see if you need a beverage or neck wrap. After services, they ask if you want a warm brownie! (who doesnt love a little chocolate). As for the services, everyone I have had has been very professional and relaxing. (this includes, facials, waxing, massage and tub soak). The locker room area is also really nice - including a shower and accessories for getting ready after a service. The whole place is really clean too! Everyone is really nice. They also have a free rewards program in addition to the pearl life membership (which has a fee in exchange for discounted services, etc.).
Overall I highly recommend it!

Visit The Pearl Spa when you have some time - there's no question it's pricey, but the overall experience is what makes it worth the money. I've had a number of massages there (different types and durations), and have loved every one. Get there early enough to relax in the lounge for awhile; the buckwheat neck wraps smell and feel wonderful. On the after-side, being able to shower and use the huge variety of products in the women's locker room (that name doesn't do it justice) is a bonus. The massages themselves have been spectacular, with experts who are highly sensitive to everything from my need to adjust the table angle and face shield placement to whether it's OK to get oil on my face. I've had products recommended, but none pushed. I leave there feeling wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Bottom line: when I just need a massage to work out the knots, this isn't the place I'd choose because of the price, but when I have time to truly pamper myself, The Pearl is my top choice.

Ahhh, the Pearl. I relax just thinking about this spa. It is absolutely gorgeous, located in the funky little upscale Maple Lawn development. The interior is appointed in a cool shade of blue and the sweet little fountains are quite soothing, even if the signature scented Red Flower candles are way too much (can we say eye-wateringly floral?). I had a decent massage at the Pearl, albeit somewhat short in duration given the high price. It was quite unremarkable, although the add-on scalp massage and hot oil treatment I bought made the experience more special. The fact that the spa has a beautiful shower facility made that treatment possible, as I would never have had it if it meant driving home a greasy mess! The shared robes and slippers were a little, uhh ... gross in the way that shared bowling shoes are gross, but more convenient than bringing my own. And the warm neck wraps more than make up for them. I have had multiple manicures/pedicures at the spa and the technicians are quite good, albeit heavy on the product pushing. I felt as though I was being upsold on everything and I was already paying quite a bit for the services. The polish didn't last more than a few days, so I can't justify spending so much for a routine mani. I also didn't appreciate that big honking TV in the mani/pedi room. How can I relax when they've got the news on the screen? I'll return to the Pearl, maybe during the holidays if I want something exotic and decadent as they offer so many unique treatments. That said, I can't make this a routine thing, nor do I want to really. The services just are worth the exorbitant prices.

I have been going to this spa for several years. My favorite massage therapist was Zelda so I was sad to find out that she is no longer there. Overall the quality of the massages and body treatment is good. The therapist are friendly and knowledgeable. They have several ways that they keep you informed of specials and promotions. The front desk staff can be a bit dry at times and due to limited rooms you may not be able to obtain peek time appointments.

This spa is absolutely beautiful; you relax as soon as you walk thru the doors. You can tell in the details of this spa that it was important to someone to get it just right.
