The prestigious Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection hotel in the heart of Athens and a member of The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts, has served royalty, heads of state, business tycoons, film stars, and high society in its more than 130-year history. Built in 1864, it was completely renovated in anticipation of the 2004 Olympics to offer modern luxury and distinctive service for the discerning world traveler. The hotel houses three restaurants, two swimming pools, spacious halls and conference rooms, and the GB Spa--itself a decadent escape that blends Eastern and Western traditions in its ambiance and treatment menu. Guests can indulge in the Ouzo Oil Massage or unwind in the Thermal Suite. A mud chamber and relaxation area, in addition to six treatment rooms, provides an exquisite escape for guests who need to rejuvenate.
Luxurious fabrics and antiques adorn the hotel's 320 rooms and suites, redecorated in the old Grande Bretagne's traditional style that pays homage to Greek culture. These ornate touches are complemented by modern accoutrements such as high-speed Internet access. Each guestroom offers views of the hotel courtyard or the city's landmarks. Dining options at the property include the GB Corner Restaurant, the property's signature restaurant famous for its Mediterranean cuisine as well as its clientele; the GB Roof Garden Restaurant, perched on the hotel roof and offering stunning views of the Acropolis; and The Cellar, featuring 3,000 bottles of wine. Tucked away in the center of the hotel is the GB Spa. The 1,140-square-meter spa offers an east-meets-west philosophy, complemented by the spa's decor of fresh orchids and basalt stones. The spa has a salon, as well as six treatment rooms for massages, facials, wraps, scrubs, and Ayurvedic-inspired services. One of the must-have treatments is the 70-minute Nourishing Yoghurt, Honey & Sugar Wrap, which begins with a foot soak followed by a body exfoliation, body wrap in Greek honey and yogurt, and a scalp massage. Other popular treatments include a regenerating collagen mask, and the ESPA Flight Reviver. Treatments incorporate ESPA, Valmont, and Algoane products.
Guests can begin with a visit to the Thermal Suite, which comes complete with a laconium, sauna, and herbal steam bath (the suite is complimentary to all spa treatments over two hours). Spa-goers can also try the couple's suite for sharing treatments in tandem, or refresh in the ice fountain before retreating to the amethyst grotto. Nutritious spa cuisine is also available.
Guests may enjoy hydro-jet massage and therapeutic ozone-and-mineral water in the indoor pool, or take a dip in the heated outdoor rooftop pool. The fitness center comes complete with Life Fitness equipment featuring flat-screen TVs. Personal training is also available. An aqua gym and physiotherapy exercises are also offered in the pool.
