COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

Bighorn is a dynamic marriage of two concepts: a spa community wrapped around a very exclusive country club. Bighorn residents are a rarefied group. There's a slice of Hollywood (Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, producer Jerry Weintraub), a roster of sports stars (Michele Wie and Pete Sampras), and a sprinkling of top level CEOs (Orin Smith, former CEO of Starbucks). Many homes here are third or fourth residences. The predominant style is contemporary takes on mid century modern design, with walls of glass offering hundred mile views of the Coachella Valley and the Eisenhower Mountains.

Social life revolves around golf and fitness/wellness, with the 13,000-square foot spa adjacent to the 40,000 square foot clubhouse. The two golf courses, Mountains and Canyons, host the Battle of Bighorn, one of professional golf's biggest matches, and the spa has been the venue for yoga parties. "The average woman at Bighorn is a size 4," states marketing director Theresa Maggio, which is why the spa and gym, which opened in March 2002, are so busy. Pilates instructor John Doughty, a former actor, characterizes his clients as "carriage trade type triple A's." Prices from $1.9 to $7.5 million.

SPA LIFESTYLE

The 13,000-square-foot spa has 11 treatment rooms that open on to private gardens, hydraulic massage tables, and dedicated hydrotherapy and airbrush tanning rooms. In addition to the expected roster of massages, including Shiatsu and hot stone, the spa offers a host of facials, including a three-step Epicurean Discovery, and a large number of body treatments, from a citrus blend hydrotherapy bath to a Wild Desert Polish and Wrap.
