About Acqualina Resort & Spa on the Beach
On the water in Sunny Isles, in the northern part of the city, Acqualina's 51-story Mediterranean-style tower evokes the city's classic 1950s-era grand hotels. The heart of the resort is the two-story, 20,000-square-foot (1,858-square-meter) ESPA at Acqualina, the U.S. flagship of the British-based spa company, which is known for its customized treatment rituals and rigorous therapist training. The hotel has 97 guest rooms and suites and four pools: one is exclusively for spa guests, another for adults only, and two others for couples and families alike. Acqualina's three restaurants include the indoor-outdoor house restaurant Aaria, which specializes in Mediterranean coastal cuisine; a branch of Il Mulino for delectable Italian fare; and a casual beachfront café. For children, the Kids Club Acquamarine, an educational, marine biology-based program is offered. An 18-hole golf course is nearby. Meeting space accommodates up to 175.

Services View Treatments Menu
Guests of the two-level ESPA at Acqualina are greeted with a cool, scented towel and an amuse bouche-size smoothie, and are led to the hydrotherapy facilities, which are recommended before treatments. Time spent in the beautifully tiled circular crystal steam room, the dry Finnish sauna, and the nautilus-shape experience shower (with color therapy and aromatherapy) is meant to jumpstart the benefits of treatments. An outdoor heated lap pool, ice fountain, whirlpool, and terrace are reserved for spa guests. Smoothies, salads, and wraps from the organic spa cuisine menu are served on the spa terrace.
The relaxation room, lined with daybeds strewn with silk throws, faces the spa pool and ocean, as do many of the 16 treatment rooms. All but four of these have private showers, and a suite for two has its own glass-walled steam room and a private oceanfront balcony. Separate men's and women's locker areas are also available. Spa interiors, designed to symbolize the cleansing process of both body and soul, incorporate soothing water fixtures, subtle lighting, and tinted glass mosaics, which stylishly contrast with materials such as sandstone, teak, and seashells.
A hallmark of ESPA is its rigorous staff training. Each therapist is certified in massage and aesthetics, so guests need not move rooms or be inconvenienced by a change in therapists for services. As a result, treatment rituals move seamlessly from salt scrubs and marine wraps to Ayurvedic and Thai massage to holistic facials. Rituals are booked by length of time, and the particulars are decided upon with the therapist at the start of the session.
