About Kalista Salon and Day Spa
Kalista Salon and Day Spa hopes that guests visiting the spa feel like they've entered a hidden oasis when they step through the doors. The spa prides itself on its organic and eco-friendly practices and even uses its own organic body butter and massage lotions. There are seven treatment rooms in the 4,500-square-foot facility where services such as facials, massage, waxing services, lash extensions, nail services, photofacial light therapy, and hair services such as extensions, haircuts, thermal hair straightening, and color are performed. Every third Friday the spa stays open until midnight to help sponsor no-kill foundations and breast cancer organizations; often the spa hosts parties on those nights as well.

Based on the reviews I was sceptical but I was will ing to give Kalista a try. To my surpise I was greeted by a very nice and welcoming receptionist who offered me some tea and they had a fantastic variety to chose from. The entire expierence exceeded my expectations and I would definantly refer you to kive Kalista a try too. Stephanie was great and gave an amazing facial. The only thing that could be improved next time is the wait was about 10 min.

I had Kalista do my hair and makeup for my wedding including myself and my bridesmaids as well as the moms. I had previously been in and had been happy with the trial, but wanted a few tweaks. The morning of the wedding, they were understaffed and I felt totally rushed. Instead of being able to all leave together, we had to leave in separate cars so I could at least squeeze some photos in with my husband. I looked ok on my wedding day, but didn't have the wow factor I had hoped for. I also felt given what we paid, the place could have been a bit nicer with some tea served.

This place is HORRIBLE!!!
The owner REALLY needs a reality check! Yes her spa is nice and her staff was pretty friendly, but this lady has no idea how to run a business. WAY over priced services for what you are getting. and the happy hour menu, what a joke! They got my apointment wrong right from the begginning and tried to charge me for services I didn't even have. Then the owner did nothing but make excuse after excuse as to what happened. I will definately never be going back and I advise anyone else to BEWARE. The same might happen to you!

Response from Kalista Salon and Day Spa
I have been in business for 12 years, and I am sorry you found the happy hour to be a joke, we offer 20% off all services between 12-4 Monday - Wednesday. On our website you would have seen the cost of your service as we have them all on there. If they tried to charge you but did not, I don't understand Maybe the receptionist made a mistake? But you did end up just getting charged for your service? I honestly do not remember making any excuses. We would have just charged you for the service you would have gotten and no excuse would have been necessary? So the staff was great and the receptionist was welcoming?? So I think I do run a great salon don't you think? Otherwise My staff would not have been so good. What is this review really about? That we ALMOST charged you the wrong price? So it was that upsetting? I apologies a hundred times for that.

Last week I had eyebrow waxing done and loved it. Compared to Anastasia's eyebrow shaping for $30 in Nordstroms, I had mine perfectly shaped the way I wanted it for $15.

I haven't been to this spa, but three days ago i called to make massage apt's for my best friend and I. The girl that answered the phone said she needed a few minutes to find openings at the same time for my friend and I, and would call me back shortly. Three days later still no call back.

I am very sorry about this! We had a management change over because of this very issue. We are doing all we can to make sure nothing like this will ever happen again. Did you still need to make an appointment? I can assure you this will not happen again.

This review is for the location in the pearl district -- and I guess they think their location warrants the outrageous prices they charge. I am not sure how long they have been there but they are in the old Magnum Opus space and it's a cobbled together, sad state of affairs.
I called on a Wednesday and was able to get appointments for me, my mother and 5 year old daughter on the following Saturday afternoon. This was my daughter's first pedicure and when I told the person who booked the appointment they said they wouldn't charge as much because she was so young and it wouldn't take very long. Such a reasonable perspective!
The manicures and pedicures were all in the fair range but the people were really nice and friendly and so I was feeling like it was an overall fine experience since they were so accommodating to my diabetic mom and 5 year old daughter. (I will continue to refer to her age throughout this review because it has bearing on our experience.)
On a lark, I had the foot detox treatment. I had read about it elsewhere and I thought it would be interesting. I still did it even though no one there could explain to me what it supposedly did other than sound bytes like, "it makes you feel lighter! and detoxified! and ready to go!!!!" When I asked more probing questions they handed me 2 well worn print outs of "facts" about the questionable practice. I still did it...score first point against me.
Here's the thing about my experience: They did my pedicure first and then stuck me in the detox bath for 30 minutes. Then I had to wait for 20 minutes for someone to take my feet out of the dark red, fetid, congealing water to complete the polish. Of course, like any sub-par salon the lighting is so low that I didn't know until I got home that all of my toes had dry skin hanging off them from sitting in water for nearly and hour. And to complete the look, the bottoms of my feet and heels were stained red. Super pretty! Point 2 against me.
Now onto the really good part. My daughter didn't like the leg masks and scrubs they used so they slapped it on and washed it off in less than a minute. Scrubbing her little, non-callused feet was too tickly so she asked them to stop. So here pedicure was all of 10-15 minutes, most of which was polish time. Since it was her first trip, she asked for flowers as well and I agreed even though they charged $2 per digit for the work -- which ended up being terrible.
On to the manicure for the 5 year old. Since she didn't want the "extras" (scrub and mask) the technician said, "Mom, since she doesn't want those things is it ok if I change her to a regular mani?" But of course! Why would I disagree?
Here's why I should have disagreed: By adjusting the service for my 5 year old, it meant rather than a deluxe combo (which was never articulated to me, by the way), it meant she received a deluxe pedicure and a spa manicure which are priced separately. So the mani/pedi for the 5 year old came to $79.00. That is not a typo people. My daughter's services cost more than my 62 year old mother's, which took twice the amount of time.
And what of the discount for her being so young and taking little time? They claim no knowledge of that and after I voiced my dismay they gave me a WHOPPING 10% off my daughter's services. So instead of $79, I was charged $72 for a mani/pedi for a 5 year old.
I'm still appalled by the entire experience. And to top it off we were using gift certificates so I can't even dispute the charges. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews first; I usually do and this is a great reminder of why. Oh, and those poor flowers that my daughter asked for? She wanted tulips and obviously the technician has no idea what a tulip is because she came out with daisies. Ugly daisies. Bad, bad, bad experience. For the love of tulips, don't frequent this business.

Beginning- Staff wrongly assumed the guy in the lobby and I were together and it went on for about 40 minutes. Building was cold. On the plus side, the gals were very nice.
Spa Manicure- Vera was my tech and was very personable and professional. I liked the products she used. On the down side, it was clear that she never read the paper I filled out with my medical information that I thought would be important for her to know.
Intermission- It is completely illogical to schedule a manicure before a massage. I had to use the restroom in between the two treatments and had to get undressed before the massage and both of those activities ruined the polish on three nails. I was as careful as I could possibly be but it seems to be a mistake to schedule them in that order. I was very pleased when Vera offered to meet me after the massage to repair the beautiful polish job that got messed up.
Massage- the room seemed to be completely not heated and I froze my buns off. I could not fully relax because I was cold! Heidi, with striking (visual) similarities to Torri Spelling, had a set of thick blankets on the table but the room was way too chilly. Her massage was great! She did as deep of work as I wanted and I really liked her slow, patient approach. She definitely knew her stuff. I really could not get past the room temp tho. On the downside, I asked her to please work on a particular spot before we started and she never touched it-obviously did not remember.
I really appreciated Vera fixing those three nails when I was done.
So, in review GREAT, professional staff, COLD building and bad scheduling decisions by the folks that do that.

I was very disappointed with this salon. Bad customer service and too high of prices for the quality of service offered.
I will never return to this salon and recommend others to try any place else before trying Kalista Salon and Spa.

I had the worst experience ever!!!! Go anywhere but here! They say they are experienced but they really have no clue what they are doing. A spa experience should be relaxing and fun. This was everything but that. Take your business else where!

You really do walk in and feel like you have been going there forever! The people are very friendly and fun to be around. They joke and play around and Keep it professional all at the same time. They all get along and the vibe in this salon is so positive. The service i recieved was a facial and massage. And it was the best I have ever had! They love there jobs and speak so highly of the owner and management. They obviously Love where they work cause there attitude shows it.
The salon was really fun to listen too, all the girls interacted with the staff as well as all the clients. Maybe they were all regulars. Even so the hairdressers talked to me when they walked through.
I had to write this review because, I have never been someplace like this. Supper friendly, upscale environment. Excellent service. Beautiful spa and salon!!!!!
This is my new hideaway. At first you think its tiny, but then it just keeps going on.
~very satisfied, I will be back
