After almost four years of renovation work, the Dolder Grand celebrated its re-opening in 2008. Originally a Curhaus, or health spa, the property was transformed into a luxury-class city resort with 173 rooms and suites, two restaurants, banqueting and conference facilities, and a 4,000-square-meter (43,000-square-foot) spa area. The Dolder Grand sits in Zurich's hills, between the city center and surrounding woodland, and guests enjoy a number of recreational facilities, including tennis courts and a golf course. Leading London architect Norman Foster's architectural firm, Foster and Partners, combined the historic main building, dating from 1899, with two new, modern wings, the Spa Wing and the Golf Wing, which curve around the fully restored main building, fusing design elements of the past and future.
