Spas in Germany

Gesundheit! You've probably heard someone say this when you sneeze, but it literally means "health" and could also easily apply to the spas of Germany. The country pampers guests from all over the world with mineral and mud spas and seaside health resorts. Visitors have flocked to Baden-Baden, located in southwest Germany, since the 19th century to "take the waters" of the spa town's spring waters and bathhouses.

Many well-known spa offerings have their origins in Germany. The Kneipp bath (a therapy that involves immersion in hot and cold water) was invented by Father Sebastian Kneipp and once involved dips in the icy Danube. German Joseph Pilates developed a system of exercises that continues to grow in popularity today.
