Over the Border to Baja CaliforniaThe peninsula of Baja California extends southward from Tijuana for nearly 900 miles, flanked by the Sea of Cortez on the east and the Pacific on the west. To some mainland Mexicans, Baja is a mystical and ultimately beautiful place. From sandy beaches and some of the earth's most beautiful deserts at sea level, the terrain rises up to form a sturdy central spine of mountains that, depending on the light, may change in color from vermilion to purple, apricot to rose. Huge cacti and pine forests, plus other unique flora and fauna, dry lake beds, and extinct volcanoes give the area a landscape that is remarkable for its variety. Baja offers an almost endless list of recreational attractions, such as diving, surfing, sailing and world-class fishing, plus an extensive supply of interesting restaurants and superior accommodations. All these factors make it an attractive vacation destination not just for residents of the U.S. West Coast, but also for visitors from afar. Continue > |
