Do you know of any spas in New York City that have infrared saunas? Most have rock saunas or stream rooms. Thanks in advance.”
Someone asked me a similar question about four years ago, and I remember there were just two places in the city with infrared saunas. Now I see there are nine!
To find properties that offer infrared saunas near you, go to SpaFinder’s Advanced Search, check off “Infrared Sauna” and then select the state you wish to search within. Infrared saunas have become much more popular these days because they are more comfortable than regular saunas. While your body heats up from the inside and you end up sweating profusely, you don’t have the hot air of a regular sauna to breathe, which can be uncomfortable to your nose and throat. I also like an infrared sauna because you can have some ventilation and bring in fresh air.
Here is a description of a terrific spa experience I had at Sphatika in which the infrared sauna was part of the treatment. Also, check out Editor Erika Allen’s recent Club Spa story on LED light therapy beds, which includes information and a photo of an infrared sauna.
