Spa Guide

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic originated the idea of "spa towns," entire villages and towns founded on mineral springs. The most famous of these are found in the "spa triangle" and include Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Marianske Lazni, and Frantikovu Lazni; each of which has been frequented by royalty and the social elite throughout the centuries.

Treatments in Czech spa towns are mainly based on the mineral springs on which they were founded. The treatments usually incorporate sulphur-enriched peat and hot-spring natural gases to cure certain ailments as well as revitalize guests. These spa towns also offer natives and guests a variety of sport and leisure options such as golf, swimming, tennis, festivals, cinemas, and musical attractions. With all the healing, relaxation, and activities, its no wonder German poet Goethe named these spa towns "Paradise on Earth."
