DIY Anti-Aging Oil & Cream: Stay Younger, Naturally
by Val Harding, International Interior Images
Any woman over 40 knows what happens to skin as we age. Previously smooth skin surfaces becomes lined and saggy. Instead of looking fresh and dewy, skin often looks dull and spotted. But what options do you have? Do you opt for a facelift or spend your retirement fund on expensive creams and lotions? Purchasing regular skin care products is already a costly endeavor and what makes matters worse is that anti-aging products are even more expensive.
With so many new products coming out each day, the demand to look younger is high. But do you really know what you are paying for? Most of the time, what you are actually paying for in your overpriced cream is the marketing, distribution, and packaging with only a very small percentage of quality ingredients within the jar. In fact, most over-the-counter beauty products won’t do a thing for wrinkles except for temporarily making them look less obvious while putting a huge hole in your pocket.
For less money, you can actually make several batches of anti-aging lotion at home, that will give your skin the nutrients it requires and help you maintain a beautiful glow. The initial investment in a few essential oils may seem high, but look again at the cost of the creams and serums in the department store. Believe me, your home potion will be better and less expensive in the long run, plus you will know exactly what the product contains with no hidden nasties. It won’t simply be scented with lavender or lemon. It will contain actual good-quality essential oils which will be more effective than something with a trace amount of decent ingredients.
DIY ANTI-AGING OIL
Not only is this recipe an excellent moisturizer, it has healing properties which help decrease dark age spots, clear break outs, and heal skin.
Create a base: using 2 Tablespoons of a light oil such as Jojoba or Almond oil
Add: 6-10 drops of five or more of the following essential oils:
- Lavender oil – calming scent and aids in healing scratches and burns
- Rosemary oil – invigorates dull skin and stops dry flaking
- Fennel – good for smoothing skin
- Lemon – brightens skin spots and corrects break outs
- Neroli – helps skin elasticity
- Carrot – used as a purifier
- Frankincense – decreases stretch marks
- Evening Primrose – provides healthy nutrient for healing
Note: The fewer oils used, the more drops you should add. If using all oils listed, 5-6 drops is plenty. Mix and seal in small tube with flip top or glass container. Two tablespoons plus a few drops of oil may not seem like much but a little goes a long way and can last months.
DIY ANTI-AGING CREAM
Purchase a neutral aqueous base cream from your local pharmacy or health store and add the oils to it or keep in the pure oil form for a more rich consistency. Mix well.
