3 Ways to Live a More Eco-Friendly Lifestyle
As the creator of one of our favorite natural and organic beauty and personal care product lines, Juice Beauty, Karen Behnke knows the importance of living an eco-friendly lifestyle and we were eager to pick her brain for tips on how to live a more eco-conscious lifestyle ourselves! Karen shares her 3 easy tips for ways to be more eco-friendly below:
Tip #1: Go Organic
Going Organic is the most important eco-tip I would pick. Whether its buying your food from a local farmers market, local organic grocery store, or you are using a delivery service, choose organic food to limit pesticide residue absorbed through your food. Of course I will recommend buying authentically organic beauty products. Since your skin absorbs what you place on it, buying certified organic beauty products mean that the majority of the ingredients have been farmed without synthetic pesticides and chemicals and thus limits the residue that our bodies may absorb, with the added benefit of treating the planet better! Note that studies have shown that organically farmed produce can have up to a 30% higher antioxidant level than those ingredients that are farmed conventionally. That means greater nutrients to feed your body and skin!
Avoid Synthetic Fragrances (e.g., perfumes)
If you like to wear fragrance, switching to a quality aroma from organic and natural essential oils is a great way to make a small but beneficial eco-friendly change. Synthetic fragrance, listed as one ingredient, such as “fragrance”, or “perfume”, can contain hundreds of harmful chemicals that are known endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruption can increase the risk of certain cancers.
Go Stainless
Lose the plastic water bottles, particularly around the house. Invest in a great water filter and get a stainless steel container to fill when you are rushing out of the house! Reserve your purchases of plastic water bottles for when needed but around the house…go with a filter!
