The Red Door: A Slice of Heaven in Union Square

Any beauty junkie will tell you, a big, beautiful blowout can turn any day from drab to fab and let’s just say my day just got loads more fabulous after a visit to The Red Door – Union Square’s very own slice of absolute heaven. This newer addition to the neighborhood features two-floors and 10,000-square-feet of the ultimate in spa and salon services. Whether you are looking for a day spa retreat from the hustle-bustle of NYC (CalmDOWNstairs) or a speedy beauty service during your lunch break (SpeedUPStairs), The Red Door has you covered.

After touring the property a few months ago, I was so excited to check out The Flat Ironed, their blow out bar which offers blow outs for $40 as well as add-on scalp treatments like the Kerastase Deep Conditioning Ritual ($50 – and a must after this harsh, dry winter we experienced!). I was greeted, like all of the other customers who strolled in for a beauty fix, with a warm smile and still a little bit of awe at just how pretty the space is! From the gorgeous design to the artwork to the floors – no corners were cut when they built this beauty sanctuary!

My excitement was totally warranted as stylist Wade Lee Richards (ladies, run… don’t walk to get your hair done by this man!) took my lifeless locks and truly raised the bar on your typical blow dry bar treatment. Wade was meticulous and I left his chair will a voluminous and beautifully bouncy blowout which I couldn’t keep my eyes off of!

After getting perfectly coiffed I headed over to what may be the coolest beauty innovation ever – the custom color foundation counter. Where Beauty Advisor Keys Smith, showed me just how far technology has come! After taking a few photos of my skin, entering my info, and asking for my preferences (full, medium, or sheer coverage) and skin type (dry, combo/normal, or oily) Keys simply pressed a button and the Custom Color machine mixed together a foundation that was so perfectly matched to my skin tone I had no clue it was actually applied! Best of all, the system remembers your info so even if you are just visiting NYC for the weekend you can call up The Red Door and have your custom color sent to you at home!
