Celebrity Wellness: Alicia Keys Sparks A #Nomakeup Movement

Alicia Keys isn’t the first celebrity to confidently photograph herself without makeup, but she may be one of the only stars saying she’s had enough with cosmetics altogether.

In a recent Lenny Letter, the Grammy-winner explained a heart-to-heart she had with herself while writing her new album, confessing the insecurities she faced when she stepped out without makeup.

One day, she walked onto a set for her album photo shoot — makeup-free and fresh out of the gym — and a female photographer insisted on shooting her in her raw state. Keys’ initial unease melted into empowerment, leading her to pronounce she’s done with “covering up” any aspect of herself —makeup included.

‘Cause I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.
